Sturgeon Fishing

This is for Anonymous.

When I first started fishing for steelhead, I was an avid, experienced salmon fisher. I knew when the fish would be in and where in the river they were most likely to hold. I gained my knowledge from years of experience. However, steelhead were different. I knew that if I wanted to be successful with catching these fish, I would have to spend another couple of seasons learning their habits and talking to experienced fishers, or I could hire a guide.

I hired a guide for one day on the Chilliwack/Vedder River. He taught me more about steelhead in one day than I could have learned in an entire season of fishing. I was into more than 30 steelhead. Not bad for an $80.00 investment.

You can try to get experienced sturgeon fishers to pass there secrets on to you, but if you ask them where they catch their fish, they will probably say "in the river". Its a big river (the Fraser) and, like steelhead and all other species of salmon, there are some places in that vast water that will hold sturgeon. I highly recommend that you hire a guide. Your investment will pay off many-fold as one or two guided trips will pay off with a life-time of wonderful experiences.

Guides can not only teach you the subtle things you need to know that will entice these magnificant fish to bite, they can show you some of the well known spots where they lie and teach you the ethics of the sport, so not only will you enjoy your experience, but you will make that of other fisherman enjoyable too when you are on the sturgeon grounds.

Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
