In case for those who are wondering, the "dollie" that I caught in the Fraser (shown in my pic of profile), is a bull trout, just got the DNA test back. And tests were also done on some of my other smaller fish too, and they were all bull trout also.

Rodney, how is the testing done, from a scale sample? I assume you released the fish.

Hey Frank, yeah, all the dollies are released. A small piece of one of the pectoral fin is clipped from each fish to extract the DNA. The exact molecular analysis is looking at the mitochondrial DNA of both dollie and bull trout. Restriction sites can be compared from collected samples and previously identified samples. Can I post pictures in discussion? If so, how do I do it? Because I have these results in picture files to show everyone too.

Here is a link that came in the mail the other day. YOU Salvelinus confluentus fans might want to check it out. http://www.fwp.state.mt.us/bulltroutid/

I always kinda took the great dolly fishing up here for granted, but looking through that site mademe glad to live in BC where we can still fish for them. (BTW, does anybody know any good spots on the pack river? I fished the bridge on the finlay forest road, but only caught a few small ones. Thanks) Tight lines
