While bass introduction is something that may potentially hurt salmon stocks, there is a real trouble that exists today - Pikeminnow (Squa fish?). They already destroy a lot of young salmon. In WA fishermen are being compensated with cash for catching pikeminnows and I've heard something about a similar project here in BC. Pikeminnows will generally prefer a slower/warmer water. I've seen people catching a lot of them in the Kilby Park (mouth of Harrison River). Do you know other places to chase this fish in our salmon/trout waters?

the pike minnow bounty system in Washington is in response to man made changes in some rivers (primarily the Columbia) that has led to an unnatural population explosion of these fish. For rivers in a more natural balance there is no need for a bounty. In my expereince the pike minnow spends more time eating it's smaller brethern than young salmon. It also eats scuplins and a variety of nymphs. I've also taken them on dry flies. The Stave used to have some huge ones off the power house race in early summer. The channel between Stave falls dam and Hayward lake was also loaded with pike minnows and may still be.
