Elk lake on Vancouver Island has some great smallmouth bass fishing on the fly - use a 5 foot sink tip, and a ginger/brown mayfly nymph - I've caught some monsters in there, on 5 pound test.. They really put up a good fight when they get bigger.. The biggest I got in Elk lake was about 3 pounds. That one fly seems to always work well in there, so I never needed to experiment is the elk_lake_mayfly_nymph.jpg
