Sturgeon Fishing

OK all you experienced sturgeon fisherman. I have a friend from Alberta that wants to come out and spend some hard earned $$ catching the Famous Fraser River Sturgeon. So she asked "When is the best time to come out for a week of fishing (the BEST time). I pose that question to the readers. When is the best time to fish for sturgoen?

Best is a relative term Ron-does she want LARGE fish or LOTS of fish. bear in mind LARGE would be 8+ feet,LOTS would be 10 or more per trip. generally after the freshet will get you more fish and March/April/some of May are best for biggies, once the river starts to rise the bite drops right off. i'd pick late August into September for fast fishing$best weather, the river's low&beautiful, salmon will be travelling, trout rising, birds wheeling, the place is alive! look at tides, they're more important than many think, most guides won't tell you that because they have to fill dates whether the tides are favourable or not. i'd avoid full moon phases if possible. who's she going to charter?

Not sure who which guide to direct her to. She is the sister of a very good friend and wants to get out here for the experience. Any suggestions or experience with local guides?

Dean likes to fish the afternoon bite, and i think he's right when he says they bite just as well if not better in the PM so why get out of bed too early(!) plus when the sun starts to go down on the Fraser Valley and the hills go from gold to purple it's beautiful. also Vic Carrao http://www.guidebc.com advertises here on this site. http://www.bcsturgeon.com the Cascade fishing charter site,Mark does a lot of tagging work, and of course all the tackle stores in the Valley,Hub Sports,Fraser's,Gord's,Fred's have guides who work with them. probably best to contact a few of them, ask a few questions about rates&whatnot, esp. for consecutive days. some of the guides on the Fraser are quite heavy smokers,if that bothers her best to ask first as you're stuck in the boat all that time stillfishing, sometimes with little breeze.

Many thanks to everyone for the information.
