It's easy enough although many people have their different favourite methods. Remove the plastic wrap from the package and lay in sink, cover 'Chovies with a few handfuls of picking salt. Wait until they are more or less thawed and place in especially designated bait cooler and use the next day. Or remove Chovies from tray when half thawed-to prevent breaking tails- and place in brine solution, about 2 -3 cups of salt to 1 litre of water, leave overnight and and use the next day.

Nick use 1/3 pickling salt to water and add a few drops of blue dye in the brine this keeps the baits shine.Thats all you need.

Now this Blue Dye-do you mean food dye or laundry blueing? I haven't seen laundry blueing for many years but then again I never looked. If you are using food colouring does it dye everything it touches or is it not much of a prob? TIA

Mickey you can get laundry bluing at Safeway. My mother uses it to get that just right l ook in her hair. Not kidding. As she says she puts just a hint in the rinse. Also heard of people using it for white dogs.

Mickey, just use a few small drops of food coloring and it wont stain everything....you only add a small drop or two just to give the water a pale blue coloring.
