Dream-fishing
-> Requires a Dream License. Next time you are having a dream about
fishing. Make sure that you have dreamt about paying a big fee and buying
all of your tags and be sure to check the dream regs to insure that where
you intend to dream fish is open. Also there is no retention of any species
in a dream region. Other than that enjoy. Remember barbless hooks only
in dream streams. I intend to spend the summer in my river...waving a flyfishing rod...throwing a floating line...to which is attatched a hookless imitation of a winged insect. I intend to do so without a fishing license. It is my contention I do not need one. I also contend that I will be able to perform this function in waters closed to fishing. What do YOU think?

Why risk making trouble for yourself?

<12704>
When you do this, fish YOUR river that is, make sure you post the time and location - I have a fisheries officer friend that would like to drop by. Why dont you ask him your question when you see him.

<12711>
bahahahahahahahahahah...............thats funny sheet...that made my day!!!!!!
|

<12712>
hey julius do you feel the same way about having to own a drivers license....?
|

<12713>
The point is that he is not fishing, he is only trying to attract fish and fool them to bite on an artificial lure, without risk for the fish. I don't see the point of spending my time that way, but it would be debatable in a court of justice to see if he requires a license or not. It's like hunting with a camera instead of a gun.
|
|
<12716>
would that be like taking a unloaded gun into a bank with no intention of robbing it, only meaning to attract attention? (hope fisheries runs into this guy on the river)
|
|
<12719>
Stick to the poetry Julio
|
|
<12724>
no license is needed; since there is no chance you will catch a fish. Have fun; by the way..where is your "river"?
|
|
<12728>
And how offen are DFO on the river's as they never leave Tim H's as that would be to much work for them over a coffee and a donut, that is there work for the day......

There are those who believe that using a hookless fly (a fly from which the hook point has been clipped off) is the ultimate form of C&R angling. The objective is not to hook and land the fish, but simply to trick it into taking the artificial offering. Can't see myself doing it that way, but I can understand the appeal, for an experienced flyfishing technician. At some point, hooking them just becomes a problem, you know ? But the simple answer to JJ's question is "yes" - you do need a license. It doesn't matter to me if there's a legal requirement - if you intend to "use" the fishery resource in any way, then you should be paying to support it.

Here is a different idea. How about an icefisher, by himself, sitting in a boat on a frozen lake, using two rods through two holes. In the regs it says it is legal to fish two rods out of a boat if you are the sole occupant.
|
|
<12735>
If you are fishing you need a fishing license, any other excuses are plain snobbish. Bur then I found that to be true among ALL fishermen.
|
|
<12739>
You likely do not need a licence as you are not "angling" (not using a hook), but may be guilty of harrassing fish under the fisheries act as was Larry Dahlberg

Some Fisheries Act definitions: SPORTFISHING - Fishing for recreation and not for sale or barter. Sportfishing includes Angling. FISHING - Catching or attempting to catch fish by any method. ANGLING - Fishing with or without a rod with one fishing line to which only one hook, artificial lure or artificial fly is attatched. ARTIFICIAL FLY - A single-pointed hook that is dressed only with fur, feathers, hair, textiles, tinsel and/or wire, and to which no external weight or external attracting device is attatched. Two or more hooks tied in tandem not permitted. The river I will by fishing, the one I refer to as my river simply because it is the only river I ever get to fish anymore, is the Allouette. Look for my big, black, mentally challenged Labrador. He'll be around trying to slobber all over anyone naive enough to pet strange dogs.

Legally I don't beleive you need a license.Are you fishing/angling as defined in the regs? Probably not. Ethically, I beleive you do need a license. As Bobber mentioned, you are using a resource that you should be contributing to. Interesting scenario though. Would love to follow the court proceedings on this one. My guess is though you would win.

Here's another one. If I'm sitting on a log that's on the edge of the river can I use two rods? See, I could push the log in the water and use it to drift down the river kinda like Huck Finn. How bout a log with a beer holder, that'd be sooooooo much better. What if I just drove my truck out in the river and fished out of that with two rods??? Hmmmm, trolling up a river with a rod out each window! Pit-lamping attracts fish and is illegal, eventhough pit-lamping doesn't catch them? What happend if the fish got caught up in your line? I once caught a duck with only my line, the hook never even touched the fish. While reeling it in (female) a mallard tried to have his way with her. Being all of six years old I asked why the man duck was being so mean to the lady duck? He just laughed!!!!!!

What about this, its perfectly legal... I've caught some really nice fish in my dreams, and you don't need a license :-) ...seems very "reel" at the time.

Jesse the regs state that you can only use two rods if you are by yourself in a boat on a lake. My point is that the Regulation Synopsis has many grey areas that should be clarified. Our regs need a major update/rewrite.

<12800>
I understand, just buggin'. Many grey areas is right!

Ah yes Frank...Dreamfishing...have you ever met an angler who hasn't? Here's something I wrote for the narration to a video I produced entitled "Steelhead: Visions of Fishdreams." "I lived 38 years before I saw my first Steelhead...now I see them in my sleep...and in visions swimming through my waking thoughts...They are fish that enter your heart...migrate to your soul...and there they spawn a fishing passion so great...that it takes you to their rivers...even in your dreams. When THAT happens...they have hooked YOU...and from then on...you are...a Steelheader."

<12875>
Just buy a license like the rest of us!!!!!

Who bloody cares? Go ahead, waste your time. If you're too cheap to spring the 32$, how the hell did you afford a flyrod. Have fun buddy, but I'll stick to landing my fish, thanks.

Buddy having fun :-) Teased up a few fish on that windy May Day we had. Tide looked to be ebbing at 9:30. Followed the Cast-only-to-showing-fish-rule until I saw swallows working over a rare calm spot. My buggy thing drifted dead brought only swoops from them but skittered and waking frightfully it brought a mature trout up to take, roll and turn down. I raised the rod to feel the fish and then held. The fish held back and for a full count of one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one- thousand, we calmly held each other tight...it released first. The fish was big enough I thought about walking back to the truck, driving back home and returning with a real fly...one with a hook...but after holding a fine fish under diving swallows beside a coastal Springtime B.C. river it just seemed like too much fuss. Hookless Royal Wulff, but I hardly think it matters. IP Address: 152.163.188.37
