Polarized Sunglasses

Read an article on plarized lenses. I've obviously heard about these things for years now. They're supposed to let you see the fish better, I guess in rivers more than anywhere else. Do they really make a big difference? If they do, how much does a cheap pair cost.

Thanks for any info

Chris

Colour is an important factor. Get something that is Amber or yellowish. I'm not sure which each colour does best, but that's been the recommended colour to me from most. They reduce glare and they generally allow you the ability to spot fish a bit more noticeably in more situations than not with bare eyes. Whether the fish have spotted you first is the question though.
A buddy of mine has tried a pair called "Anglers eyes," which run @ 135 dollars and says they are DAMN amazing, but you don't need to spend that kinda money, just giving you an idea of what's out there. I used to have a pair of Action Optics Sweet Waters which I found on a VI river while fishing it one day and they were definately pretty sweet (and retail for 60 bucks US), but I broke them (Oh well, no loss!!). A pair that does the job runs around 20-40 bucks (maybe cheaper) and I'm sure someone in your tackle store can recommend a pair for you, although I can't guarantee they will be as aesthetically (sp?) pleasing as the ones that aren't polarized. No one wants a pair of polarized glasses that you can't wear in public so as to serve the double purpose of working for fishing, but not making you look like a dork...IMHO...A good place to go would be do some shopping via phone or email with some local tackle stores.

Rapala makes a decent cheap pair($30).Hub sports carries them.Always keep them in a case when not in use to avoid scratching the lenses.

Yeah, these glasses I'd use for fishing only, already have a pair. Thanks, will try those places sometime.

I use the Rapalla "DORK" Glasses. They are available in three different lens tones. Canadian tire has them.

Did you know that in some countries it's illegal to wear polaroids when fishing? came across that info on the net some time ago.

Depending on budget, polarized can be had from about 20.00 to well over 300. Mine: a pair of photochromic Mountain Equipment Co-Op Glacier Extremes. Why? Well, in the morning, low light....polarized lenses are real hard to look thru, unless you get a tame lens. During the day: a darker lens becomes necessary for glare purposes. Evening; same as the morning. **BUT**.. the *photochromics* are from 7-17%, full UV protection, and only the *one* pair needed for the day. Cost: 100 canadian. Check around for the Japanese Haida brand.... same idea, but about 75.00..... they quit making them...pity...good for MEC tho.......

I used to have 2 pairs of "Bob Izumi" dork glasses, amber and brown, from Can tire that were $13 each but that was a few years ago. They worked great. I assume they have been replaced with the rapalla ones at a higher price.

I definatley wouldn't reccomend spending big bucks if your going to use them for just looking into the water. The plastic lenses on the cheap glasses scratch easily but if you take care of them they will last forever. How they choose the style for these glasses is beyond me they could make Ozzy Osborne look nerdy.

In Abbosfort Wal_mart (at hwy-1 abbosfort exit), there's a glasses store right in front of the Wal-Mart casher's counter line,(enter into the Wal-Mart's entrance, turn left, but do not go into wal-mart store), they sell this polarized clip-on lenses (blue-grey color) at cad$10.00 You can test it before you buy it, the clerk will ask you to see a special sign, after you ware the lenses you will see immediately something you can't see before. Good Luck.

thanks mathieu i'll have to try check it out next time im out there

Also most London drugs carry the polarized clip-ons. Almost wish I wore glasses. Much cheaper way to go.

For the last few years I've had the magnetic polaroids that attach to my perscription glasses, I love them.

<14374>
Frank convinced me to get some too - so I did. They are great. And if for some reason you knock them off and they fall into the water - you got about 4-5 sec to react and retrieve them - they go down like an intermediate sinking line....

<14385>
Frank where do you get a pair of those megnetic polaroids? and how much are they?
Casey

<14386>
Casey, They come with the frame when you buy new glasses. There are 2 brands of frames that offer magnetic clip-ons.

<14390>
Oh ok thanks frank its time for new glasses any ways im going to look in to those
