Im from the uk and ive only done course fishing, I Miss it alot as i know what im doing, Well think i do anyway. Ive been here now nearly 2 years(Vancouver)and have only been out on the ocean Trolling but find it a bit tiresome and dont know what the hell is going on in the depths, so i just sit and blank mostly. Im Off to alice lake this long weekend and i dont have a fly rod or would have a clue how to flyfish but i do have a nice light float rod.Is this method of fishing alowed here and is it even worth doing here, and by the way ive seen the stony fish the kids catch and i dont fancy hooking one of them, Trout only or carp if they exsist here. Please help as i miss fishing ALOT. ps i will learn the fly fishing soon.

Yes, Derren it is allowed but you must check the regs and make sure you are fishing somewhere bait is allowed. I'm not sure about keep nets. Pretty sure they would not be allowed here. Also ground-baiting is definitely NOT allowed! Excellent Carp fishing locally. E-mail me for some spots. I too am from the UK. Been here 9 yrs but found it a very different place to fish when I first got here. Alice Lake has a 'no power boats' listing in the regs but if you have a small boat I would strongly suggest picking up a cheap fly outfit before the long weekend. You don't need to be able to fly fish to troll while you row around the lake.

I'm mostly into fly fishing, but when all else fails, I always turn to bobber and worm (as long as it's legal). It always seems to work. If you're going for trout, I suggest setting the hook fairly quick, because I find if you let them chew on it for any more than a second or two, they get hooked deep in the throat making a successful release basically impossible.
