Waterproof jacket

I own a Fenwick jacket and it's supposed to be "waterproof" but it diffinetly is'nt. Does anyone know if there is a good waterproofing spray that really works.

Unfortunately most "waterproof" jackets are water resistant at best. I'm not sure what material your Fenwick is made of but I know that most materials similar to Goretex need to be kept clean, followed by drying in a hot dryer for a short time to restore the material's properties. 3M makes a Scotchgard Outdoor garment spray that works well. Make sure that you use it after your jacket has been cleaned for it to work best. As I'm not sure what the cleaning instructions are for the paticular material in your jacket better check the label.

Wash and waterproof treatments will depend on the material and the waterproofing. For goretex Nikwax makes products such as techwash and waterproofing agents. Urethane backed rain garments should not be put in a clothes dryer. Most rain garments will only remain waterproof for a period of time. PVC, the most common waterproofing agent breaks down in UV light fairly quickly for example. Teflon (and scotchguard) washes out and such garments will need to be retreated after any washing or dry cleaning. BTW these treatments are not intended to provide rain protection for long periods of time - at best they'll keep you dry for a couple of hours in a down pour.

Randog,
I've been fishing the same Fenwick jacket since '93.There well made and very durable, but will not stay waterproof forever.Mine has seen a million miles and has been resealed a few times.I've tried a few different sealers with about the same amount of luck. The outer layer is woven, so keep it clean because its the weave that traps air to keep it water repellent. If you fish in downpours, get a rain jacket or the new Bare jacket as they are waterproof.
P.S. DONOT put this jacket in the dryer!! Air dry only!!
