Flyfishing from a canoe

Anyone have any experience with this? I have a hunting canoe that is much more stable than a conventional canoe. My is very wide and low with foam pads on the outside, and set up to take a small outboard. Would rather use this than go out and buy a belly boat. Any input appreciated.

Thanks

I find one big advantage of a belly boats is that you are able to use your feet (flippers) to control your position - which leaves both hands free for fishing.

In a canoe, if there is any wind at all you drift and spin. Even the action of casting will cause a canoe to move about somewhat.

Just get small anchors for front and back, and put some guides on your canoe so that you can drop them from your solo paddling spot.

Tight lines.

Hey John

A canoe is ok if you already have one. They are generally pretty light and easy to transport. As above, 2 anchors is a big help. I found that sitting in the middle once I anchored allowed for a more stable platform. Or, drop the anchor from the bow, then turn around to fish from the stern.

Once it starts to warm up, it can be nicer that sitting in a tube all day, catch some rays!

Thamks guys. I just got it cleaned up and hope to try it out in the next few weeks. I'm planning on trying a electric motor on it as well. Alan, sitting in the sun and having a few cold ones sounds great dosen't it. (not to mention not having to go into shore everytime to get the beer out!)

In a light wind hanging a drogue(or sea-anchor)can be a great way to drift slowly down the lake.
You cover a lot of water this way and if you have an electric motor you can just motor back up and drift back beside your previous drift.
