Snagging

Something new to see at Kieth Wilson Rd....

Hope this link still works.

At first I thought this was a joke.

Good one!! That could translate to the Vedder in salmon season, or the Fraser in sockeye season! Can't wait till I see the battery operated reels!

I can't believe that some place this kind of thing is actually legal! Can you imagine the number of fish that are seriously injured on their way to the spawning grounds! I know that this will start the oft discussed Sockeye flossing issue again, but this is really sad to see in this day and age!

I have to say that's the most disgusting, caricature of the sport I have ever seen. Now I understand why they turn up here with their huge treble hooks and 60 pound test, and get upset when we won't even let them put it in the boat. These individuals have absolutely no concept of Sport Fishing. I'm even more disgusted that a supposed Sport Fishing magazine glorified it by printing an article about it.

Its more honorable to stick a hook in a fish's mouth than his ass? Please explain.

Uh oh...this could get ugly.
Masterbaiter does have a point.

A direct quote from that wonderful site;
"Once I snagged a catfish. It was, perhaps, the biggest I ever had on rod and reel. It spooled off 200 yards of 50-pound mono in less than a minute. I never turned its head."
Of course he never turned his head, it was snagged in the ass! All I have to say is "What a bunch of loosers". Where's the sport in this type of fishing. Its sights like these that get other people snagging, worse than they already are. I'm thoroughly disgusted.
Brett.

this isn't the first case of a legal snag fishery in the states. In some areas of colorado it's legal to snag kokanee on their spawning beds (they're all stocked & don't reproduce naturally) and there have been snag openings on the Washougal in Washington State in years past.

You guys should check homeland before you start critisaiz other countries.Just go have look at natives at mouth of the Cap.Are we actualy any better?
P.S. In Russia,Iran,Vietnam people are using Dinamite for fishing,in Polynesia solution of cyanide/Anyway I would be more worried about comercial fishing, rather then some snagers in some SThole in states.......

Day...don't you ever compare a sportsfisherman to a native fishermen. These are two completely different ways of fishing. The snagging in the states is down by sportsfishermen...the native fishing at the mouth of the cap is done my native fishermen, not sportsfishermen.

I just read the article and I find it absolutely bizarre. It seems cruel to hook a fish in the back and drag it in - especially when a fish's mouth is just cartilege, and not flesh. If the intention is to eat the fish, well so be it, but there's no chance for release, regardless of the outcome.

I have seen them snagging sockeye in Port Alberni. My freind and I were floating red hooks, and sincle eggs and out fished them all though. weleft with 4 sox and we never saw a single sock get snagged

Interesting to read "running bears" comment that he poached or snagged 100 plus fish at mouth of the cap yesterday. I have fished here for the past two days without luck and observed maybe 4 fish caught by sportfishing while the native fishers are taking 15 /20 fish per snag line . On the positive side the successful native fishery speaks well for the success of the hatchery program and I hope running bear directs some of his barbs towards the governments that are planning to eliminate the financial support for this fishery otherwise his take of fish will soon approach mine.
