What are you using for bait/snagging/flossing

what were you using for bait mike? Also new to salmon fishing in B.C. and help would greatly be appreciated

Bait>??? ha ha ha ha,A 3 oz betty and 10 feet of leader with any color wool.

Mike, try using just a bare hook with your 10 foot leader, it probably works just as well.

yah it problebly does work just as well but i believe that the wool acts as wings in the current, when if you were to use just a bare hook it wouldnt have the same affect.

how heavy of a main line/leader were you pulling mike?

Hi there, Can anyone give me a summary of how the fraser is for bottom bouncing off shore right now. Sounds like Herling and Grassy are good but do I need a boat to get there because I don't have one? How come no mention of the Weight Scales in Hope. Is that bar closed this year?

Matt, it DOES work because these fish are NOT biting.

would you mind telling me how you are so certain that they are not biting?i dont think anyone have done special research to find this out so in my opinion its anyones guess.....you have your theories and i have mine.

Matt, this is a ongoing battle for all fisherman. The first thing anglers must consider is that the Fraser has very limited visiblity. A few inches at best, especially around this time of year. Next, is that for the majority of the time a longer leader is best. If you think they are bitting why don't anglers use a 2-3 foot leader like you would in the vedder. You could spend all weekend bouncing a 2 foot leader and the results would be slim to none. I was throwing a 15-16 foot leader last summer for socs and outfished everyone around me. The last thing I can think of is that a small corkie and a tuff of wool is very difficult for the fish to see. You need to use something that has a large profile, like a spinning glo, rattling plug or a spinner. Also the typical spring water is quite fast, resulting in the fish not seeing the lure. You need a slower presentation.

Some of the springs do bite. I landed 3 last year when my hook and Lime green corky were buried in the back of the mouth. This would not happen if they were flossed. It could be luck also if they ran into it at the end of the drift. Who knows for sure but I think some do. Cheers, Mars

SUPER FLOSS!!!20 FOOT LEADER!!!!!!!!!

Mike, earlier in your reports you used a 10' leader, now your SUPER FLOSSING with a 20' leader, why the sudden change if you were a rockstar with the 10' leader? Perhaps you could enlighten us.

The simple fact is the longer the leader, the more fish you will catch bottom-bouncing in the fraser due to water colouring. Of course this is flossing, but long leaders are not illegal, so at the end of your drift when you reel in once in awhile you will hit a fish. It's not the most sporting way to catch a fish, but with the amount of $$ we pay every year on gear, etc. to fish you can hardly blame a guy. They need to change the regulations to stop this practice. The thing that does concern me is that this type of bottom bouncing with long leaders is beginning to show up on the Vedder quite a bit even when the water is clear and fish can be enticed to bite.

Who give a sh** if they are caught biting or flossed. The Fraser is a meat fishery- end of story. Throw one on the BBQ or in the smoker and enjoy. Besides the scenery is spectacular in valley, and it represents (to many folks) a great day on the water in our beautiful province. Are we any worse, or better than the commercial fishery with their nets. Or perhaps the first nations who used to catch them with a pointed stick a thousand years ago!! Flossing, netting or spearing is the only way to catch them in the muddy Fraser. Purist can fish for minnow trout and listen to the tweety birds. I'll take 30lbs of chrome at Herling or grassy anyday!! Just my two cents.
