Boating Needs/Advice

I was wondering if anyone knows of the new rules coming out for boaters. When is the requirement for a safe boaters course coming in effect and if anyone knows of a list of requirements for a boat ie: flares, lights, horns, etc.

give the coast guard a call - they have a package that they send out for free

Hi folks, I am looking to purchase a boat for fishing in the fraser rv, local lks and hopefully the ocean. anybody with experience have some recommendations as a good all-round boat. currently i am thinking about 14 to 16 foot aluminums with 9.9 to 20 hp or a 16-18 foot starcraft, bowrider type of boat. any advice would be appreciated.

thanks greg

Hi Greg,
Just be aware of the limitations of some of these boats in fast or rough waters.
I feel ocean fishing in small aluminum boats risky, and bow riders are more easily swamped.
I watched a bow rider get swamped in a hole under the 2nd narrows, it never had a chance.
Just my opinion.
What about an inflatible ie: zodiac.
Stable, versatile, cant be swamped, good for lakes or chuck.
Anyways good luck
PS one more piece of valuable advise.
never buy a Force brand motor, unless you need a good anchor :-))
