I just got some stuff for homemade spinner blades, i.e 2 swivels, a keyring, and a colorado blade, and of course a hook. Now how do you pry open the hook eye to put the swivel in, or should I use another keychain ring for that between the 2nd swivel and the hook? Thanks Chris

Chris, the best thing to do is buy hooks that are already pried open. Then all you have to do is clamp them shut. These hooks should be avaliable at the tackle store and are purposely designed for homemade lures and blades.

Or use a split ring. That's what I use on most lures when the original hook gets too badly rocked.

Where can you get just the blades?

Most tackle shops should have them.

West coast tackle on Hastings has all of the spinner components you could ever need.

Ok. Thanks Robert & Ian. Actually I didnt know there were hooks already pried open. I managed to make 3 today. I had some 1/0 Eagle Claw Hooks and just got some plyers and pried it open, and then shut, took a few minutes... As for the blades, 3 vets has em for 20-30cents each depending on size and colour. Wherabouts on hastings is it? Chris

When you fish these little things under a float, should I put any splitshot along the lien or anything? Or will it sink by itself? Thanks Chris

The open eye hooks Robert is referring to are called open eye Siwash and have a number of different applications. I buy my stock at Army and Navy. Keep a couple spares in your vest. When the spinner blade hook dulls up beyond repair just use your pliers to open it up and crimp a new one on and you're back in business.

Ok, thanks! How heavy are they in the water? Should I put a few pieces of splitshot along the line. Thanks for the help! May get out to the cap/seymour even today and try em out! Chris
