Hey In my constant quest for experiencing new ways to fish, I wondered if any folks had opinions on using 12- 14' noodle rods...slow action and light lines...do you really need them to hook into more fish...is it more fun...what's the story? thanks

i use a 10' noodle rod for stealhead. i like it but i know people who dont like them. i think it's just a matter of prefference. once you get used to it, you won't trade it for...well lets just say that you will like it.

I have a 10'6" noodle rod I've used for coho, pinks, and trout. It's a blast if you're sticking to smaller fish.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with these lighter type rods, could you say that one needs to fish quieter, therefore a longer battle? Or can you pressure the fish in a hurry to the beach with these things? Eastern Canada and the USA in the great lakes fishery was the spawning grounds for the noodle rod...

The battle maybe slightly longer. But you'd be surpised of how much pressure you can put on four pound test with the right rod. I have since stayed away from the noodle rods though with eleven feet of mush for a rod it makes it difficult to set the hook. Unless you use some thing like a fine wire #8 then it sets itself.

Just use bait, then you don't need to set the hook they swallow it whole. Then the build-up of lactic acid from the extended fight will seem like the least of their problems. :)
