Just looking at a few mooching rods (shimano convergence)as a possibility for centrepin/float rod fishing; and I was wondering what is the difference between them and "centrepin rods" like a Sage 3106 3113mb talon etc. Is the layout the same but action different? If the layout is the same (handle position, etc) how is a "centrepin" rod action better than a mooching rod action? Just curious; cause I don't want to pay more than I have to they are the same for centrepin fishing; or real similar at least. Will I notice the difference?

fred's in chilliwack had some st.croix c/p rods for about $160 a few weeks ago. they are apparently pretty decent rods for the money. i have a real hard time shelling out $400 for a c/p rod myself, but this looked like a pretty good alternative.

centre Pin reels are reputed to work better with medium to slow rods - rods that have some flex from the mid section into the butt or a lot of flex into the butt. No doubt someone is happy with a fast action rod and a centre pin - I've never used this combination and have no desire too. (rather go fly fishing anyway!) If a mooching rod meets this it may work. Beware though as mooching rods may not be designed to cast a lot of weight and you may have problems with overloading the rod if using even a ounze or so.

St.Croix. You'll never find a better rod for a better price. And you'll definitely notice the difference fishing a St.Croix over a Convergence, way softer feel.
