Hey guys, Im just curious what everybody's favourite patterns or colours have been for catching springs. Winter (feeders) or migratory. I dont mind sharing information, so heres some of mine. (Saanich/Cowichan/Sidney area) For Spoons, I've had little or no success with the tiger prawn, blue silver, mongoose or green tiger prawn. I have had success with Green/Glo, Wonderbread, and Cop Car. Mostly in the 3 or 4 inch size. Coyotes are some of the best spoons out there. As for hootchies, I've only had luck with a Green/Ghost. Didnt fish them much last summer, so cant really say. Had a hit durign Chum season a Fuddle Duddle. But thats the only variation I've had. Squirts same thing, only had luck on Green/Ghost around my area. |

Personally I don't like those colours and I don't like those dumb names either. Marketing BS is all it is. Also Coyote Spoons are Grossly overpriced I prefer any Flutter Spoon on the market see here http://www.luremaking.com for Spoons in bulk. With Spoons it's all the length of the leader between the Spoon and Flasher unless you're just running a Spoon alone, the best way to entice a Big 'Un outside of Anchovy that is. For Winters use something with a little Blue on it, Diamond Lance has a nice sized/coloured Spoon for just that application. As to Hootchies white is #1, Glo #2 and Green/White #3. What size? Octopus? Needlefish? Squirt? Ah wouldn't you like to know!! If you like Glo lures watch out for a product called LunaPlast which is being developed as an application for Salmon Lures. It's the brightest D***** thing you'll ever see and picks up a charge very, very quickly, and lasts for hours unlike most wimpy Glo lures we have now;you have to see the stuff to believe it, incredible is the word. I can't give out too many details I've just seen a Demo myself I hope to get my hands on a few samples soon.

Tom Macks in the half silver half brass are killer for winter springs. Army trucks, white, glow below, oil slick, green white, pistachio and tiger prawn are the best hootchies. A lot of success has to do with the leader length as well with hootchies. Try running the line out of the side of the nose of a hootchie. Ian PS Carl check out Nikka tackle in Vancouver for the Lunaplast hootchies. I am not sure but I think they had them in last week when I was there.

The Krippled K with the Pink sparkly inside works great for Cap coho on a tide change. In late August when the Capilano springs show up as well as the odd white, try trolling a number 4 tee spoon with a couple of ounces of weight 60 ft behind the boat. You would be surprisd at how many springs will hit.
