I fish a 1263 GL3 with my Seldex(1953R) and it is matched perfectly. Great coho and Steelie rod/reel.

sounds like a nice rod, but i was looking for something a little longer, possibly 11'2" or even 12', just to keep line out of the water better. have you hooked any springs or chum on it and how does it hold up?i don't want to limit myself to pocket water and tailouts, if i don't have to.

The length of the rod has no bearing on its strength. How old is the your seldex and how well does it spin. If it is older, and doesn't spin as free as a Drifter etc., then you need a rod that will "load" the reel easy, in able to generate enough momentum to spin the reel properly. Yoy won't find a rod that is perfect for Springs, Coho and Steelhead. A rod that is ideal for Springs will be too heavy for Coho and vice versa. If you have the money, go to hubs and pick up a Sage 3113, they have them for around 350$. This rod can land any fish, and is light enought to fish Coho. I'd be fishing mine, but some stole it on the Vedder!

THANKS SCOTT, I WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT AND IT EITHER DOESN'T WORK OR IF IT DOES, NOT FOR LONG!NEEDLESS TO SAY, ANYTHING EXTERNAL DOESN'T ALWAYS MAKE IT THROUGH I'LL CHECK IT OUT ON SFBC SITE. MATTHEW, I CHECKED OUT THE 3113, AND IT IS ALMOST EXACTLY WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. MY SELDEX IS BRAND NEW, AND FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD, THEY WORK BETTER WITH USE BECAUSE OF IT BEING A BUSHING REEL. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF A BLANK CALLED "CASCADE"? MY NEIGHBOUR HAD ONE BUILT. 12', 4 POWER. REALLY NICE FEEL TO IT, BUT A LITTLE HEAVY FOR WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. AS FOR GETTING YOURS RIPPED OFF, I THOUGHT THAT CRAP ONLY WENT ON AT THE CHEHALIS.

On bushed CP reels.... do owners still wear them in with toothpaste on the post and inside the bushing, and cardboard tabs on the cranks with the vacuum cleaner in reverse to provide the fast air to spin the handles for as long as needed. Or is that passe now?

yup, mine sat beside the heat register at home for a weekend. no toothpaste though, just a little machine oil. what a difference!
