Anise oil and shrimp oil

Just wondering if any of you use these products on your wool ties and if you think they are effective. I've been using pro-cure roe for Coho on the Vedder the past two weeks and I think it is just hell to use, keeping it in the loop, then there's the smell, staining, etc. If you can appeal to the fish's sense of smell/taste with these products I figure they must give you an edge.

What is your experience and can you recommend a product. My roe days are over. Thanks.

IMO They can sometimes make a difference Yes.
OTOH-Spill one of those little bottles in your vest, on your waders...well let's just say Anise smells better that rancid Shrimp.
I know what you mean about Roe, no matter what I use to cure the stuff it ends up hurting the skin on my hands.
Pro Cure makes some good oils, Berrys usually has a good selection.
A Buddy of mine, a very successful angler, swears by 'Mike's', which is made in Wisconsin of all places.

some of the pinks that i caught with wool that had anise on some of the fish were hooked quite deep but if the same colour didnt have it i didnt get the same result if you want to catch a lot of pinks use anise

I bought a bottle of the anise oil at Freds about 5 years ago. The damned thing leaked from the day I bought it hence everything in my tackle containers reeks of anise oil as well as me after I handle anything, which probably isn't a bad thing. Considering my record at catching fish I don't think it works but I suppose it masks the scent of tobacco, deet, or roe.

Just a reminder to not use any scents etc. in areas where there is a bait ban. I've heard of guys getting busted for that by zealous CO's.
Take care.

A person could be charged for that Yes but proving the charge could be difficult for the Crown.
If a person could demonstrate, as clumsy Guys like Crabs no doubt can, that all their gear reeks like Anise then it would be up to the Crown to demonstrate that scent was applied specifically to a wool tie in this particular instance.
The balance of probabilites being what it is the Judge would no doubt find for the accused.
For the record I am in no way suggesting that anyone use my flimsly hypothetical excuse to circumvent regulations that the Government in it's infinite wisdom has put in place to save our precious natural resources for the depredations of Humanity.
Heaven Forbid!!

I'm just glad it wasn't a bottle of shrimp oil that I bought. So is my wife and cat. 8-) Suppose I could have thrown it out a long time ago, but I kinda got to like it. It has to be potent stuff because there is still 1/2 of a bottle left.

Squib, It seems that you and I share the same 2 or 3 different Sprint IP Numbers. From earlier posts I see you live in the "hood" of Kitsilano, I live in South Vancouver. We should try posting simultaneously one day.

Crabs, you should try carrying a small bottle of Sambucca instead of the anise oil. It can be used as scent, or as a little belly-warmer on a cold day :)

Ah yes Bobber, Sambucca. My last memory of Sambucca involved sitting around the campfire around midnight, roasting marshmallows and using Sambucca as a kind of fondue dip (for the roasted marshmallows and probabably some mud and wood chips). No memory of what happened for about 12 hours after that. Might have had something to do with the sunshine, beer, scotch and Grand Marnier as well but I don't think I ever had a worse headache in my life. Lost a full day of fishing and many liver and brain cells. I hear there is something called Absinthe that can bring on a similar reaction.

Based on limited but thoughtful research (i.e. reading your story), I've concluded that marshmallows cause hangovers.

This might explain why girl guides and cub scouts are so downright cranky in the morning.

Actually, careful scientific research by myself and a selected group of friends who contributed mightily, (all in the name of science, of course) has proven conclusively that sleep is bad for you and makes you sick.
Think about it folks. How many times have you passed out.....er, I mean gone to sleep feeling really really good and done absolutely nothing but sleep and then wake up feeling absolutely horrible?
See, it's the sleep that is bad for you. It's elementary.
