I own both a 10.5 foot series one and a 10 foot convergence. The Berkeley is great. Fun with five pound capilano coho, and tough enough to land many of those big white monsters on the vedder. Ive bought berkeley for 20 years and their service is quick, plus on a couple of occasions have replaced rods long after their warranty. The convergence is tough, but about as sensitive as a telephone pole. Thats the rod I let my buddies use. Also, this years series one has an exposed blank in the handle which is nice.

I own a Fenwick HMX 10.5 foot rod. I really like it. Had it for about 5 years now although it has been bumped to second place by the new Sage I just bought. I would recommend it. p.s. I have A Fenwick Legacy 10.5 foot as well. Also have the 11.5 foot version Fenwick HMX .... less sensitive but a little more backbone. I've always had good luck with Fenwick.

I have a Berkley Canadian Specialist 10 1/2 that I got last year as a back-up... then I broke my main rod and had to use it!! It's done pretty well... a few decent size Springs to show on it... not quite as sensitive a tip as some of the more expensive rods... but it has a decent backbone without being too stiff. Good for casting and playing fish...Good luck!

Hi folks I'm looking for a 10.5 foot drift rod for Fraser Valley Coho and Steelhead float fishing. Mostly fishing the Vedder, Harrison and Chehalis. Does anyone own a Berkley Series 1 10.5' rod that sells for about$160, if so are you happy with it? I've heard good things about this one. Anyone own a Fenwick, St Croix, or Shimano Convergence in 10.5'? I would appreciate your opinion on these rods if you have experience with them or any other rods under $200. I'll be using a level wind reel. Thanks.

just purchased the 11 foot fennwick HMX @the end of august to replace the 11 foot fennwick legacey that I had but parted company with.Have used it extensivley through out the fall season and have no complaints, good for small ho's on the vedder to a 35# spring on the fraser. although I liked the legacey better (now discontinued)this is good rod for the money complete with a five year warrenty. note the berkley is the same blank with different guides and only a one year warrenty.

You can get a shimano convergance at Hubs for under 100 bucks...can't go wrong. I picked up a backup Pin convergence there for 99 bucks

I myself own both the Fenwick HMX and the Berkely Series One.I like both very much but I would have to pick the Series One as my favorite rod.I have owned a Series One for the last 20yrs.

Mike the rod you describe is the 11.5 ft. this has a very stiff back bone and tip,the rod I have is the HMXT 110MH-2 (11 FT. 12 TO 25 LB.) and I found to be more sensitive in the tip. Yes I have the trigger and use a level wind reel. I also have an 8 wt. 9 ft. HMX. Fly rod that has stood up very well over the years of bushwacking and boating the rivers. Very good feel and value. (it not a sage, but its also not $600+) Hope this helps.

P.S. never had any troubles with the reel seat or its location

I have a berkly rod. one of the newer ones. It's not a bad rod to fish with but it's a piece of crap when it comes to durability.

Horsesass what did you mean when you said the newer Berkly rod is a peice of crap when it comes to it's durability.I have both the older model and newer model of the Series One and I find them to be a really good rod.I know a few other guy's who have them a nd they also like them. They are a very tough rod for their price.
