Nelson BC Flyfishing

I'll be in the Nelson area most of July. Any river or stream location recommendations for fly fishing would be appreciated. Do any guides
for the area exist?
Thanks!

There's a stream about 45 min. to 1 hr. to the south of Nelson. You can't miss it, it is quite big, and it has some unreal flyfishing. Some big bows and even the occasional franken-sized (2-3lb) kokannee. Bring the hopper patterns, and there's usually a huge hatch of cinnamon sedges about a size 16 every night. A huge hatch as in you'll probably swallow a few dozen. Preferrably from a boat min. 14 footer, or else there are many places to access it from shore. Yes there are a few guides that operate in the area, and one posts fishing reports on this site.

There are also some good small stream and small Lake/shore fishing opportunities if you take some of the back roads north of the Nelson area along some of the small feeder creeks entering the West Arm between Nelson and Balfour. Some of the creeks may not look like much when you cross them at the highway, but if you go upstream far enough....Beaver ponds and Brookies, need I say more. Also, west of Nelson and North up along the Slocan river then head east along the Lemon Creek road and up into the back country- very nice areas. There are some good evening hatches on the Big Lake (Kootenay) at a lot of the feeder creeks and back-bays from time to time. Try the drive up to Kaslo and west on the road to New Denver- couple of nice small lakes on the way by. The area is fairly well populated so don't expect "undiscovered country", but you CAN find some scenic areas and some fine small streams.
