How well do you think a catch and release fly only trout fishery lake in the Lower Mainland would work? I would like an opportunity to go to a local lake and have an opportunity to catch some larger fish. I know there are local lakes that hold larger fish but access is limited and not necessarily conducive to flyfishing. Not enough people practice catch and release nor treat fishing as a sport. Couldn't one lake be set aside for such a fishery?

Kirby Morgan and Frances ( ? the next one up, don't have my book handy) are both c/r fly only. I've never caught a fish in Morgan, 3 tries. Past Sayers above Stave. I've seen heads in the water, could be that the fish are taken by maroons who aren't reading the regs. That would be the problem. Al

I've been to Morgan about 10 times in the past 3 years now. Caught and released 2 rainbows one day, the largest being 17", and I had another day where I landed 4 smaller fish, in the 10"- 12" range. However, I've paid my dues there, and I have been skunked a number of times too. Not an easy lake, but it gets very little fishing pressure, and there are rumours of 4 lbs+ fish. Best in Sept/Oct with leech patterns....

Alan: Don't you mean Florence....not Frances.....? Is it as deep as Morgan.......avg of 60' and as deep as 120'?

Johnathon Correct, I had a brain lapse. Frances is up near Weaver. Have you ever found a way into Florence? I hear it is a really steep access and there are logs everywhere on the edges, so hard to get into. I've been to Morgan 3x over the years. 2 weeks ago it seemed perfect, no wind, chrominade husks hear and there, but nothing. I had a fish finder and they were all at the very bottom from 60-90' plus. Ugh! I guess that's why it's fishing and not fish. Al

Thanks for the response. I now know there are catch and release fly only lakes in the Lower Mainland. Now in my perfect world there would good access, less rain, more shoals, better hatches and the lake to myself! Regards, K
