Harrison Pinks

When do the pinks usually start to show in the harrison river?
What techinques to you apply and what are the condition of the pinks in the harrison??

first couple weeks of September are good for Pinks. Lots of chromers with some slightly colored up ones mixed in. Slime line, 12 foot leader or so and pink flies are what I use.

the pinks are generally in good shape - ie edible up to about the Thanksgiving day weekend. There is a big run into the HArrison above Kilby in late Sept into Oct.The males tend to have well developed humps so aren't the nicest looking fish to bring home for the family. Keep in mid that once you get the knack you'll catch so many you'll have no problem picking one or two that are in nice clean condition.

Sorry guys, the Harrison is closed for retention of Pink salmon above the rail bridge. This will proabably be the case for the rest of the season. No Sockeye, No Pinks. Try fishing the Vedder or Indian arm for good fresh pinks.

As far as I know the Vedder will be 0 retention on pinks as well. I find the closure in the Harrison above the railway bridge kind of bizarre considering the most accessible part of the river is from the bridge upstream to Cabin point and there are no conservation issues associated with harvesting pinks anywhere in the river.

FOC seems to be slowly backing away from a fishery of Pinks (consider that the Fraser will likely be closed for all salmon angling after labour day).

Vic,

Indian is slowing down, the run does not seem to be as big as the last couple years. However there is some massive pinks that we have caught{ up to 10lbs!}.

The Vedder is your best place for a fresh one, stick down by the highway bridge for te best action.

Are they in the Vedder now?

I just checked the Freshwater Salmon Supplement there is currently no allowed retention of Pink Salmon in the vedder/chilliwack system including the portion downstream of the Sumas/Vedder Canal confluence.

Patrice, I got one a week ago. But it is still prety early. Give it a week or so. Next rain will defenetly start Coho and Pinks though.

Thanks,

I'm going out with a friend this week-end and I was wondering where to go in the Valley. We're pretty much ready to go after anything anywhere.

Patrice

Go get the springs in the fraser,Its still full of em!!!!!!!

I spoke with Devona last week on the issue of Pinks. Her explanation for 0 retention on the Harrison was; they don't count Harrison pinks as a seperate run, they are lumped in with the Fraser stocks. So if the Fraser is on a low cycle then the Harrison would remain closed with the Fraser.

Well since I dont keep any pinks in the Harrison, the closure dont matter to me. Will have some fun catching and releasing them.

I would expect it to be a nightmare below the railway bride at Kilby. Hopefully nice and quiet above.
