Anyone have any suggestions on Flies for salmon on the Serpintine River and the best places to fish it? |
|
It's been so long since I fished this river I hesitate to give advice. The nickomekl (which had the better rep and I prefered)and Serp are truly sister rivers having once offered exceptional fisheries, declined and now returned to some of their former glory albeit with limited opportunities for keeping a fish. Flies once favoured were old style patterns like the Siwash and yellow Peril. The Mickey Finn would be a good choice as it shows well in the dark peaty water of these streams. Cutthroat, Jacks and Coho love it. Experiment. Try a black Wooly Bugger Where to fish. My favourite spots were off Bose road near the bridge either up or down or well upstream where Bear creek joins the Serp. Also good was the area downstream of the northern crossing of the Pacific Highway. The river is narrow here and then broadens up. Coho used to congregate here waiting for rain to raise the river so they could move up to spawn in the Tynhead and guildford (hard to believe eh?) area.
