Hi Eskimo. Saw your post on fly-fishing the Vedder awhile back. One tip is to try a Skykomish Sunrise fly for (catch and release) the steelhead on the Vedder in May...the 12-15lb. fish seem to particularly go for this fly. Also, consider trying a strike-indicator (vs. a swing-drift) so you can try a drag-free float this way...the fly won't particularly be different, but the PRESENTATION will be different, and some days a drag-free drift works best and on others the traditional "steelhead swing" presentation works best. Worth a try. I have some great tying techniques that can help keep your fly in-tact when those 4-inch smolts tear at it all day (can get expensive after awhile) You can't do this in the Vedder in May, but when "bait" is allowed you will GREATLY increase your catch rate using flies by adding a tiny (only a half-an-inch) strip of pork-rind to the bend of the hook.
