HONEY there are Rainbow monsters in my campbell noodle soup.

Where Rainbows are measured in pounds and monsters lurk the depth.

Splash!!! there goes another missile leaping 6-9 ft into the air and splashing down on the water.

I think we should have a vote to changed the name Minnie lake to Rainbow Heaven.

Located on Douglas Lake Ranch, Minnie Lake and Stoney Lake is a flyfisherman heaven about... the 8-10 lb trout..

October 4, 2002 I spent five hrs literally stirring the chicken noodle soup hoping to land these magnificent missiles.
Arriving at the Ranch, I set my hopes small Bcuz initially recent reports had indication of slow fishing activity. since getting skunked at Lunbom the day b4, I knew my time had come..

Minnie's not your most pictoresque lake but certainly is typical of the surrounding lakes such as Lunbom.. (If you want pictoresque try PeterHope)On contrary Minnie has extensive Weeds which consequently provides an excellent food source for these Mammoth trout.

Overall, I caught and released 10 fish ranging from your typical 14 incher to 10 lb trout..

Not bad even considering I caught the 10 pounder on a blast from the past fibreglass fly rod...

Hey Sonny, what is the price to fish Minnie these days? Also what flies were you using. I was gonna do a Peterhope fish in mid Oct. but I am sort of spent of that lake.

Hi Mark,

At Stoney Lodge, I believe it's approx.. $270-$299 for 2 nights and 3 days of fishing.. I'd have to go back and look thru my brochure..but check out their website for more details.

I stayed the night in Merritt, then drove to the guest ranch and ask if I can day fish at Minnie. Normally, you would make reservations ahead of time.. but I was contemplating whether to head up to Island Lake.. or Tunkwa..
At Minnie, I went fishing for half a day (9-1pm). The cost for half a day is $64 and a full day is $130.. .. and depending on how the fishing went I would have stayed longer.
Fishing itself was at times excellent and then back to sluggish... and it all depended upon the "schoolling" behaviour of the trout. Keep an eye out for projectiles there a key indication of where the school is.. ohh.. and listen to the squaking ducks.. apparently fish have a comedic side to themselves and like to joke around with the ducks.. However, I wouldn't be surprise if you found a duckling carcasses inside a belly of a ten pound trout..

Back to fishing, I couldn't justify staying for the full day or even longer, cuz I've already caught 10 trophy size kamloop rainbows and last but not least my 10 pounder.. which fought like a salmon.. it was so big.. that every time it came up to the surface.. it just rolled....

As for flies, cerise woolly bugs and dragons.. sinking line.. or sink tip.. (No dries)

Good luck Mark.. and let me know how it goes..

I'll try to hit Island or Tunkwa later this Month.. but my vehicle took a beating on the Nicola valley gravel roads......
