How About Red & Green Butt Chironomids

I was fly fishing a lower mainland lake on Tuesday. (Fishing was great btw, landed 38 the biggest being 18 inches. Even caught a 16 inch CATFISH, on a olive leech)and there were many chironomids hatching. I was suprised to see that many of them were tan bodied, with a red butt and then a green butt. Has anyone seen this coloration on chironomids before? Because, I have never carried any 3 toned chironies in my box ;-)

Actually, I have seen that particular coloration. And I'd be glad to tell you about it, but I'd need to have the name of the lake in return. You go first :)

Bobber, if you need a finger to point the way, why don't you go and try Squeah Lk. up in the hills behind Kakawawawa. Nice cutties in there and the mosquitoes shouldn't be too bad yet!
By the way the regularity of your postings tonight would make you the new webmaster!! Prof.

Fished this same lake again today, Bobber. For one hour before dark. Decided to try a dry fly for the hell of it. To imitate the emerging chironomids. Landed 5 on a Tomb Thumb, the largest being a 16 inch Cuttie, that was very well fed. My cousin fished from 3-6pm and caught 18 on size 8 orange chironomids. The lake is only 10 minutes from my house, and in an urban area, yet has very little fishing pressure. I have been going right by it for years. And only recently, have found out just how great the fly fishing in it is.
