The Pink Solution

by Trevor Bailey

Firstly, the lure is a simple pink walleye jig-head of between 1/8 to 1/4 ounce. Attach 1 to 2 inches of pink plastic worm by threading it on the hook like you would a worm. Then tie the jig to the main line, no extra weight is needed. Cast the same as you would while bottom-bouncing, but that is where the similarity ends. Once the jig settles at the end of the drift, do not retrieve in fast to recast. Instead, retrieve slowly while raising and lowering the rod. Pink salmon swim close to shore, often in as little as a foot of water and willingly attack the jig. Also try letting out 10-12-feet of line while reaching out as far as you can and drop the jig into the water. Now simply raise and lower the rod tip, making the jig jump off the bottom--but hold on tight because with such a short amount of line out the pinks hit hard.

And don't forget, have fun and respect all fish that you catch. If you are planning to catch and release the pink salmon do not drag them up on the beach. Take the hook out of the fish at water's edge, gently revive them and let them go.
