How heavy is your fishing vest?
Mine was about 30 lbs, so took everything
out and it still weighed a lot. Crying
Ended up with very sore shoulders after only two hours.
Released four cutthroat over 14".
A real nice day. Razz

Joined: Sep 2008 I am not sure how heavy mine is, but there are vests out there designed to spread the load across your shoulders and back which might be of some help to you.
There are also modular vests which let you leave the lower part at home or in the truck if you don't need it.
I have also seen the wide belts used for back support, worn by waders on the river and that may even be the issue more so than your vest weight.
Check with your local pro shop they may be able to help.
