The highlight is definitely the huge and hard-hitting chinook salmon otherwise known as king salmon that are consistently in the Tyee class (over 30 pounds), a trip to Shearwater could be your fishing trip of a lifetime. The feisty and acrobatic coho salmon (silver salmon) are voracious feeders and can be found in large numbers throughout the area. We enjoy fly fishing for Coho as they are consistently feeding along the miles of kelp reefs that line our area. Idling along the kelp beds you don't really know what you are going to get. Don't forget about the halibut fishing on the west coast of B.C., there are plenty of halibut to go around. These leviathans of the deep keep our guests intrigued for an entire day of west coast fishing excitement. Abundant bottom fish that will readily bite your lure include Lingcod, Rock Fish and Snapper otherwise known as Yelloweye Rock Fish. The saltwater sportfishing here is some of the best salmon fishing BC has to offer. Our area supports an amazing amount of wildlife both in the ocean and on land. Milbanke Sound and the discovery Passage support enormous numbers of Orcas (killer whale) and Humpback Whales so whale watching is readily available. We are are on the doorstep of the Great Bear Rainforest home of the Kermode or Spirit Bear (white bear) and the area resonates with the sounds of bald eagles and other waterfowl. Our newest addition at Shearwater, the Great Bear Lodge , is a 27 room waterfront lodge which includes a double bed and shares a bathroom with the joining room. Shearwater's RV Park & Campground is located a short 4 minute walk from downtown Shearwater and comes complete with power, water and sewer hook-ups. Advanced reservations are suggested as the busy summer season sees the 12 stalls booked up fairly often. Picnic tables and fire pits are located on the grounds as well for your use and enjoyment. BC Ferries Discovery Coast Passage offers service from Port Hardy and Bella Coola right to our doorstep. Passengers and Vehicles are delivered to the Shearwater terminal after an exciting cruise of the mid coast. All inculsive fishing packages include direct flights along with private carriers bringing you to our resort. See our website for all travel information. Whatever your goal is Shearwater's sheltered waters and pristine location ensure that you will have the trip of a lifetime! Be sure to contact us to discuss the possibilities. |
