May 28th 2013 Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report


The South Bowen or Hump fishery seems to be over for this year. Over the weekend there was the odd fish caught but it was tough to produce. This is quite typical for this fishery as it ends the last week of May every year. There have been some decent reports of White Chinook being caught up the Sound and over the next couple of weeks we should see more and more of these fish move towards the Squamish River area. The West side of Bowen is a good bet the end of May and early June as is Hutt and Grace Islands. The Gulf Islands is THE PLACE TO BE if you want to see fish. Thrasher to Entrance and Five Fingers is producing Chinook to 20 pounds or so. If you pick the right day you should see 6 to 10 on the hook. We are encouraging everyone who wants to try this fishery to book now as prime days are booking up. We do require a full day to travel to the Gulf Islands and we take a max of 4 persons. This is a weather dependant fishery as the open water can be an issue from time to time. Depths have been 100 to 160 feet with spoons and plastic working better than bait. Crabbing as usual is very good in the Harbour and will only get better in the next 2 weeks prior to the commercial season opening.
