May 7th Saltwater Fishing Report Vancouver

If you are sitting on the fence deciding to go fishing or not - get off the fence and go. Now is the time for Feeder Chinook to 20 pounds in our local waters. In the past week the South Bowen fishery has really taken off. You have to put in your time and there are some slow periods but the Chinook are around and seem to be much larger on average than in past years. Many in the high teens to 20 pounds so really nice fish. A mix of Red, Marble and White meat Chinooks are being taken. The weather has been good and it looks good for the next week! Depths in the 50' to 90' have worked very well in the past couple of days. Crabbing has also been very good with the Jericho area of the Harbour working better than off of Stanley Park although that will change in the next couple of weeks. Be mindful of your traps as there are reports of "rouge" thieves not only taking crab but taking traps. If you are more adventurous try our Thrasher Rock trip as this area has been of fire for the past 4 days. This is an weather dependant 8 hour or 10 hour trip so book early as the boats book up fast when this fishery is happening like it is NOW! The bulk of these fish are Columbia River fish that migrate thru our waters on their way back home. This area should be great in the next week to 2 weeks. Fish anywhere from 60' to 200' and as in years past the spackle back hootchie has worked great. We also use Anchovies so change it up when times are slow. Good luck, tight lines and get out there !
