Interior Fishing Report for May 13th 2008
Liquid sunshine is falling from the sky as I write this today, May 13. My customers that are coming in today are cold and wet with a mix of snow and rain driving them in for cover. The fish that were active have slowed down and there are many reports of a change in diet for them as well. Fortunately the weather is going to change for the good as the long weekend is coming up. The temperature is going to jump up to 30 degrees for the weekend and it is about time. Some of the reports that are coming in;

Nicola Lake – The trout are still hanging out in the shallow water along the edges. There is a lot of feed in the warmer water and the fish as taking Coho, Egg N Eye, Egg N Eye Flyer, Hare’s Ear and Bead Head Spratley patterns. Troll with Wedding Band or Triple Teasers but again stay fairly shallow.

Marquart Lake – Chironomids have been the main patterns to be using but the last few days have seen increase success with Boatmen. Olive or Herling Boatmen have been very productive. Chironomids that are working are Chrome, V – Rib or Static patterns. There are also fish being caught from shore with bobber and worm rigs.

Tunkwa Lake – There is lots of fresh water flowing into the lake from all the snow melting. This is good as all lakes need a good flush to bring in fresh nutrients. Small Chironomids are the ticket for catching fish at the moment. Black, Red Butt or Limey are the patterns right now but if the heat comes as predicted, this will change. Reports are that Leighton Lake has finished turn over and is clearing up.

Kentucky – Alleyne Lakes – Are starting to produce fish. Dragon Nymph, Micro Llama Leech, Damsel Nymph and of course Chironomids are working.

Stump Lake – The Chironomids are happening but 52 Buick, Damsel Nymph in either Olive or Ginger color, Dragon Nymph or Olive Bead Head Spratley are hot patterns. Fish to eight pounds have been caught this week.

A reminder to everyone going out this weekend that the lakes that are higher than Tyner are still frozen and some of the high back roads still have ice and snow on them. The heat coming our way will change every thing very quickly but in the meantime, dress for cold weather; you can always take it off.

Have a great time fishing and please catch and release.
