2010 - 2012 Limited Entry Hunting Synopsis Released

Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) are hunting opportunities created via a "lottery", and the details are found in the LEH Synopsis. Participation in the LEH draw is available to any resident of BC who legally possesses a BC Resident Hunter Number.

The purpose of Limited Entry Hunting is to achieve wildlife management objectives without resorting to such measures as shortening seasons or completely closing areas. It is only introduced where it has become necessary to limit the number of hunters, limit the number of animals that may be taken, or limit the harvest to a certain "class" of animal.

See the BC Hunting and Trapping Information 2010/12 site.

Firearms safety training leads to a safer Canada
(NC)—Canadians have a long history of safe firearms use. Proper training for those who wish to acquire firearms is an essential part of that tradition.

Individuals wishing to acquire non-restricted firearms must successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course or show proof of having passed the CFSC exam. To acquire restricted firearms, an individual must also successfully complete the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course or show proof of having passed the CRFSC exam.

The purpose of these world-renowned firearms safety courses is to instill a sense of responsibility for the participants' safety and the safety of others. For this reason, both courses teach participants about basic firearms safety practices and the responsibilities of the firearms owner or user, as well as safe handling, transport and storage. Each course need only be taken once, unless a person has received a prohibition order from the courts, in which case safety training must be taken again.

Individuals who provide proof of having completed a firearms safety course in Manitoba before 1994 or in Quebec before 1999 are generally deemed to be exempt from these requirements.

To inquire about exceptions and alternate forms of certification, please contact the Chief Firearms Officer for your province or territory. Contact information for Chief Firearms Offices can be found by visiting the CFO section on the Canadian Firearms Program's website, www.rcmp.gc.ca/cfp , or by calling 1-800-731-4000.
