| Langara Island Sept. 7th Fishing Report |
 Weather & Conditions
Might be a bit of stormy weather over the next few days, with a chance of rain and SE winds expected.
Fishing Report
Just one week to go in our 25th season at Langara Island and fishing continues to be very productive.
An abundance of bait massed along the east side of the island has helped to fuel some excellent action around Cohoe Point and Andrews Point. Most of the salmon here are being found a bit deeper — 30 pulls and down. A few salmon have also been found in towards Egeria Bay in shallower water.
Off the north side, numerous guests have been successful fishing the deep flood tide drift, starting offshore of Langara Rocks and allowing the incoming tide to carry the boat around to McPherson Point. Salmon are being found deeper here as well, as much as 80-100 pulls. Warmer ocean currents have been present around the island for a couple of weeks now, and this has definitely pushed the salmon down to find cooler water.
Along the Graham Island shoreline, a few chinook were found yesterday at Boulder Point on the ebb tide, all between 15-30 pulls. Seath Point and Burger King (both east of Pillar Bay) have also been productive for coho salmon recently.
Bottom fishing slowed down this trip, due to the west side being closed for the past few days, but was outstanding last week, with numerous 100+ pound halibut being found. But the usual spots east of Langara Island are still yielding plenty of smaller halibut.
Current leaders in the September Salmon Showdown are a 40 pound chinook and a 16 pound coho. The guests who catch the largest fish of each species will win a return trip to Langara in 2010.
Wildlife
Humpback whales have been sighted around the island recently, occasionally appearing close to our fishing grounds.
Bald Eagles, Tufted Puffins, Rhinoceros Auklets and many other sea birds can all be seen around the island.
The sea lions have moved from Langara Rocks over to the shoreline around No Name Point.
