I agree with fishface and Sandman. There isn't much open for Rockcod in the Vancouver Area. Check the regulations because all the Vancouver areas around are closed for conservation. For a Halibut, you have to go to the island if you want to catch that species. Sooke, the West Coast and upper the northern part of the island are pretty good for rockcod and Halibut. I've been over to Ucuelet where there are so decent catches still. The only problem is the weather and it gets pretty rough sometimes. You're best bet would be Port Hardy where the fishing pressure isn't as bad. Unfortunately, there isn't any 1/2 day trips to do the kind of fishing you requested. |

Rock cod and bottom fish are in few if not low numbers in the Vancouver area, and closed in numerous areas around Vancover, head over to the Island for reasonable fishing. The Princess was a great suggestion out of Ucuelet. On a different note, the rainbow fishing is hot here in southwest Arizona lakes this winter, but the water canals were drained completely for repairs and cement liners and as they did nothing to conserve the catfish population they were left to die without water and what was a great fishery is for the time being finished. there were 50lb shovelheads dead everywhere around Yuma's dried out waterways. Truly proud to be a Canadian with conservation measures in place...... |

RE; NEWBIE TO AREA. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU LOOK UP WWW.OBMG.COM TRY CANADIAN PRINCESS RESORT VERY RESONABLE AND GOOD FOR SALMON OR HALIBUT OR COD. YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED UNLESS YOU CANT HANDLE RUFF WATERS ... ITS A GAMBLE WHEN YOU GO OUT IF ITS GLASS OR RUFF.. |

Rainman, I am sure Tim will move this to the discussion forum soon, but in the meantime, I am afraid I cannot help with the spey as I only fish single handed, but please let me know how you make out. I imagine I will pick it up eventually, but can only afford one rod at a time and my 8wt is more useful for a range of applications. |

I saw the posted question earlier, but I do not bottom fish the salt (only fly fish for me), so I did not reply. I imagine that you can catch rock fish and cod in the West Vancouver area and up Indian Arm and Howe Sound, but I do not think you will get any Halibut. Check the Regulations for the location of the numerous Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) where you are not allowed to fish. If you want halibut and cod you will probably need to head over to the Island, especially the West Coast, where the fishing is best. As for closer to home, I spent a soggy morning drifting a pink bunny leech in a small flow on the north side, but did not get anything but wet. |

Hi, new2saltware asked in the fishing forum about wanting to go Saltwater fishing for the first time and am wondering where I should go for Halibut, Lingcod, the best time to go etc.
Is there an inexpensive charter that 2 or 3 of us can take for a 1/2 to full day of fishing in the area?
Its been a couple of weeks and no one seems to be able to answer him, anyone here can? I will give a set of tickets to the Sportsman show for the first 2 answers. Admin |

With predictions of gale force winds in the forecasts, I decided to avoid the Chilliwack wind tunnel and headed to the north side of the Fraser to fish my favorite little stream. While I did not get any takers myself, I saw two fish landed and one hatchery fish taken on roe. I was working a variety of patterns from small egg patterns through larger bunny leeches and squidro patterns. While I was there, I stopped by my late father's memorial bench to wish him a happy birthday. |

Some clay bank collapsed into the river above Borden this morning and has really coloured up the flow. Hope it clears quickly and does not become a new permanent source of turbidity. It is bad enough hav |

Tried out some new intruder patterns in the lower river. Nothing to show for it, but the water was surprisingly good despite all the rain. |

Went out this morning to swing some flies in the lower river. Tried a pink bunny leech for a while, then switched to a purple one with a chartreuse egg. Did not get any hits to speak of. |
