| SPRING HAS SPRUNG |
 |
After almost 30 years of fishing at the Sportsman's Club, Bev & Don Gordon have that 6th sense for sniffing out the "big one", here with Simon celebrating their 38 lbs. trophy spring salmon.
March is almost gone and April will soon be upon us which leaves many of us wondering ... where did the winter go? In some parts it never came. Here in the Pacific Northwest it certainly did with record snowfalls and crazy stormy weather.
This is great news for the salmon. All that snow in the mountains means there will be lots of water in the river systems when the salmon come home to spawn.
Speaking of summer ... have you planned yours yet? We were going over the family calendar last night and realized that we are running out of dates to plan adventures. If you are interested in a fishing trip this season now is the time to book before you run out of dates. Call your fishing partner(s). Pick a date. Check with your wife/kids/boss/life coach and then call us to book. We all need something to look forward to.
Do yourself (and everyone around you) a favour and plan some summer fun for YOU! |

| Spring Salmon ...
With Spring come the return of the salmon to spawn in their birth river. The first species to return is the mighty chinook hence the nickname spring salmon. The early chinook run starts in April in many rivers systems. There are also many summer and fall runs. Some river systems have more than one stock of chinook and more than one run per season. This is certainly the case in Rivers inlet where we have an early run of these chinook that show up as early as the first part of June as well as a July & August run. Many of the chinook in the early run are white chinook that for some reason fight a bit harder. That is why July is actually one of the best months to fish in Rivers inlet.

| Pacific White Sided Dolphin ... |
 |
Majestic, playful and friendly Pacific White Sided Dolphins surfing in the boat wake.
People come to Rivers Inlet to chase the trophy sized salmon that we are famous for. However it cannot be denied that the wilderness "experience" of being off the grid in middle of nowhere is a huge part of the Sportsman's Club mystique. The whales, eagles, seals, sea lions are all amazing to see but one of our favourite sights is a pod of Pacific White Sided Dolphins. I once saw a school that must have numbered over 1,000... it was incredible. If they see your boat they beeline towards you, stay a few minutes to say "hello" and carry on their way. If you encounter then when you are running in the boat they start to playfully surf in your wake at the stern and in bigger boats, at the bow. So where are they going? Their range is all over the Pacific. From Alaska to the Baja, across to Japan and as far to the South east as the South China Sea. Their numbers are estimated to be as many as a million but their huge range and penchant for deep water keeps their exact number a mystery.
