Fished Marquart for the last week, and finaly yesterday and today the fish are
realy on to the chironomids. browns worked very well for me. in 12,s and 14,s
2x long, landed a 27 1/2 inches 9 1/2 pounder @ 9 this AM along with 7 other
fish from 17inch to 19 inch all caught between 8;45 and 10;30 this morning ,
funny thing happened on my last fish, I was fishing the bottom in 30 ft. of
water, My rod diped, I grabbed it, barely felt the fish on, heard a noise in
the front of the boat, turned to see a 17 inch trout squirming in the bottom
of the boat, my fly still in his lip, first time a fish has jumped in my boat.
fishing should be good this weekend. tight lines.

Comments:
Fished Roche Fri May 5. Although the weather has been sunny and warm, the water
is still very cold. Fishing midges in about 6-8 feet of water seemed to be working
for most that were having any success. Black, red rib, and clear glass bead
produced for us. The fish were active and eager take our flys for most of the
morning/day until the wind really picked up...around 2pm. For those of you heading
to Roche, be prepared for the wind. Have fished this lake about 4 times only
to experience the wind each and every time. Give this lake another week or two
and it should really get good. Tight lines!

I left Marquart lake three days ago, I had been fishing there for the preceeding
5 days, and contrary to the report given by the powderkeg sportshop, the fish
were not very eager to take a fly, there was absolutly no chironomids emerging.
I did try several collors and wasted a couple of days with chironomids. I managed
to catch a few on a small pheasant tail nymps, and wooly buggers. and no one
elles onnt he lake was doing well either. seems like the season is about 2 weeks
later then last year. water was still only 8 degrees.

Fished Mill Lake in Abbotsford from 6:30pm to 9:00pm tonight after work. I didnt
have a lot of time but I had to get out and enjoy the weather. Caught a few
right away 2 on a size 8 olive woolly bugger and another on a olive dazzle leach
with a monocore intermediate sink line. After that around 8:30 fish started
rising everywhere and got coaxed into puting on the dryfly only to have one
rise to a 14 Adams over the next hour.

Went to Kelowna for on a sales trip and stopped at Courtenay Lake to cast a
line for a couple of hours. Had great success with a small pregnant shrimp pattern
landing three fish the largest of which was 28" and about 7 pounds. A beauty
for the first time out. A few other boats on the water having limited success
with chronies. I pumped the stomach of the first fish and it was chock full
of about #24 black chronies. Be warned, very windy.
