That's right, the tidal portion closes for salmon fishing after today, so get
out there and enjoy it the last time! Just got back from Squamish River after a
morning of fishing. It was fair to good. River has been dropping all day,
condition is quite perfect. Almost everyone had a fish or two on (pinks), I
hooked 4 myself, on both pink worms or pink wool by drifting a float. Also
hooked a fish on Koho spoon. The river was not crowded, enough space to fish
comfortably. Good luck all! :-)

Fished up at Herrling yesterday. Not many people and the fishing was slow for
most. I manage to hit 3 springs. Landed a nice 15lb red and handed 2 to my bud
and both popped off. Found out yesterday that scale was closed when a guy told
me. They closed to river due to people not fishing properly and poaching
sockeye's. How many stupid people are there in BC? This was just a warning that
if it doesn't stop they will shut the whole river down and WHO knows for next
year?. I know people are choked that other people are allowed to take all the
fish and you can't but lets no ruin it for what we have now. If you see some one
not fishing properly speak up. You will have the backing of the other fishermen.
Write a letter to Devona Adams at the DFO stating your concerns. Cheers, Mars.

Isn't the scale bar closed - I might be wrong but I thought it closed last night
at midnight to all salmon fishing??? Went to Laidlaw yesterday - tons of sockeye
but couldn't find a spring no matter what I tried. Not too many people and MOST
releasing sockeye without dragging them up on shore. Lots of garbage - why can't
people haul their garbage out?

Fished the lower Fraser River this afternoon during the incoming tide. The pinks
have arrived, not in great numbers but definitely enough for you to hook a few.
I was at Garry Point Park and they were surfacing with the dorsal fins sticking
out in the backwaters. Fished with spinning gear, croc spoon, 1/4 ounce, orange.
Also tried further up the river but did not see any yet. The next week or so
should be good until the DFO closes the river for salmon fishing. Good
luck all. :-)

There are plenty of pinks showing up in the arm. I was there twice this week and
got some good action around Deep Cove. The biggest was 6 pounds on a six weight
flyrod, good fun there. I figure they will be moving up to the north end later
this week if they aren't there by now. All my fish were on Dave's Pinkie, a
braided pearl body with a strip of pink rabbit fur tied down at the bend and at
the eye. Use a medium size white bead to weight the fly and find the fishes'
strike zone. The fish in the cove were hitting near the bottom even though they
were surfacing. Use a slow steady retrieve and wait for the gentle take.
Remember not to over set the hook, I pulled a few flies out of those soft
mouthes when I got a little excited from a strike after a long drought without
one. Tight lines!

Just returned from a 3 day trip to the Bella Coola flyfishing for pinks. Many,
many pinks in the river right now. Lots of fresh chromers with sea lice. Between
3 anglers we caught and released too many to count, mostly on sz. 4-8 Glo-Bugs.
Since the river is quite milky, you can fish 10 feet in front of you and catch
as many as yoou cann handle. Great fishery for kids and beginners! Actually got
a sore arm and wore out the click-drag teeth on a reel. First time for both!
Only downfall is long drive to get there. Upside of that is lack of crowds. We
only had crowded conditions on one run one day. Went for a hike on other days
and had a pool to ourselves.

Hit Island 22 on Sun with 2 of my daughters and a friend who was out for his
first time ... what an intro to salmon fishing! The bar was packed and fishing
was shoulder to shoulder but the action made up for it. Everyone was catching
sockeye and a few went home with some springs. Move to the Vedder and fished
just below the hatchery ... what a disgrace. There were two guy there who had
caught their limit of springs (and then some) filleting and packaging their
'extra' salmon ... guts and skin everywhere and a carcass dumped into that pool
behind the big rock. By the way, these were seasoned anglers in their neophrene
with their baitcasters ... what a shame my kids had to witness that crap.

Fishing in whistler lakes has been producing well. The dry fly action has been
steady all summer.Alpha lake has been great with 20 fish nights using small Tom
Thumb flys, black bead head leeches and olive caddis flys. Nita lake has been
good but smaller fish. Alta lake cutthroat, which were introduced last year to
deal with the stickleback have grown to 16 inches and add to the great rainbow
fishing whistler has to offer. Please note Alta & Green lakes are bait
ban, catch&release only. Lost lake will produce on any small dry fly. Any
small deerhair fly will do when there is surface action. Green lake has been
great in the evening with results at the mouth of River of golden dreams. For
anyone fishing without a boat I suggest the dock at Alpha lake beach or wading
at the mouth of River of Golden Dreams.

Fished an undisclosed spot along the West Van Waterfront this AM. A beautiful
and successful morning it was, I took my old fishin' Buddy and his little boy
out. Just casting from the shore we caught 3 small Ling Cod-all released-and 2
Coho. The only sad note was that the Coho the Boy caught, too small to keep, was
brought in dead. Apparently when the young fellow set the hook it penetrated the
fishes' brain-it was hooked thru the eye socket which is not necessarily fatal-
and killed it more or less instantly. So now it's food for the Lings and Crabs
and life goes on.

Started out at Laidlaw around 7:00 am. There was alot of guys coming out with
fish, but it seemed to slow down after I arrived. After about 2 hours of no
success and crowded fishing I decided to head to one of the less populated bars.
Fished there until 1:30 with still no luck. I started to sense a peculiar skunk
smell, and it wasn't coming from my smoke pack. Then 2:00 hit and Grandma pulled
the beans out of the pantry. I hit 6 sockeye in about two hours, the two biggest
pushing 10 pounds. All together about 25 fish came out including two springs.
Lots of the sockeye were big, in the 8lb+ category. The moral: Be patient and
the fish will come. Tight Doobs!

Fished the Skagit on Friday the 3rd. Rainy all day which kept the bug activity
down. Hooked five and landed 2--nice bows about 16 inches. One on a big stonefly
and one on a bead head nymph. Saw a big dolly but could not get her to bite.
River is crazy low--long leaders and subtle presentation is suggested to get
these finnicky fish to bite--action is cooling off as the temperature rises.
Need more rain to get some more water depth in some of the shallower runs. Fish
are spooky and too packed up to fish well. Still a great day--very pretty river!

My buddy and I took a boat upriver yesterday from Herrling, to an exposed bar,
and caught our limit of sockeye in an hour or so. Didn't see any springs.
Herrling looked busy, but upriver it looked pretty quiet.

Washington state fisherman here wanting to acknowledge the fact that with the
exception of a few overbearing fisherman of the non-Canadian variety I found my
trek to the scale bar on the Fraser to be quite enjoyable. I have become over
the years disappionted with the lack of sportsmanship present on my home rivers.
Fishing in Canada was a breath of fresh air for which I would like to commend
each and every person that I fished with that extended the curtacy that I
received. Never have I been complemented by a fishermen below me who
acknowledged thanks for letting him always cast before me. Casting sequence
becomes paramount while fishing in crowded conditions along with not making
extreme casts upriver. The practice of everbody moving to dry land when a spring
is brought down sure showed a lot of class a practice becoming increasingly
absent here in Washington. I can say that I would choose a Canadien crowd to
fish with over others. Your patience and respect for the fish is what is all
about. Thank you for the experience eh!

Fished at Campbell River the last four days. Although the weather was not that
great (windy and rainy most of the time), it was still a lot of fun. Fished in
lower Campbell River where there was a good number of pinks moving up now. We
also spent a bit of time on Discovery Pier, caught some greenling, rockfish. Saw
some pinks rising on the surface, feeding on the bait fish from the pier. We
also saw large springs (between 12lb and 30lb) landed from the pier during our
stay. :-)

salmon taken and released. We got skunked and every one else said the the same.
Nothing was even showing up on the fish finder. Moved down to Active lots of
boats on the east side . Saw 1 salmon approx 20 lbs taken and we had 1 strike.
Lots of fish on the finder but no one was geting any strikes.

I fished the Peg leg on Tues. and Wed. managed to get my Limit of Sockeys After
many hours of fishing, the weather was good, and I had a real good time ,except
for a few hours I had the misfortune to be in the company of a fishing Guide
from Osprey Guided Adventures, I was told by another man that was there that his
name was Sandy Ritche. He was the most unsociable man I ever met on the river,
he give the impretion that the river belong to him, and that I shouldn't be on
the same bar as him, anyway I felt good when he left

Fished Peterhope Lake monday. Slow during day, then from 6:00 to 9:30 the sedges
started coming off. Caught 8 fished all on dry flies. (tom thumb/caddis).Used a
long thin leader as the fish were very spooky. Next morning, fished the Nicola
river and caught a bunch of small ones on a grasshopper imitation. On the way
back into town, stopped at one of my favorite secluded spots on the fraser and
caught 2 sockeye(lost the bigger one) and a 20 lb chrome spring. All and all an
excellent two days of fishing....Tight doobs.
