Well gentlemen (and ladies?), the Flossmaster is back from another weekend on
the gong show that is the Fraser sockeye fishery. It was tough going this weekend
as expected with all the commercial and first nations fisheries going on. Just
about EVERY sockeye I saw come in had net burns. Some to the point of flesh
wounds. If these are the ones that are getting away just imagine how many are
not. A lot of tiny sockeye. As small as I can ever remember. Again, the commercial
fishing probably has a lot to do with that. Never saw ANY springs come in on
Scale bar. Not a one. I heard of one or two but never saw anything myself. I
guess that is about it for Springs on the Fraser this year. Went to PegLeg just
for a laugh. You can drive your friggin sports car right on to the bar now so
it was a gong show the likes of which words cannot describe. RVs, campers, whole
familes and all their pets, grandma and grandpa, whining kids and crying babies.
Yikes! I did not even attempt to try find a precious few inches of shoreline
at the risk of being verbally (and otherwise) abused!

Mr Fisher, You NEED to fish higher up on the river than where you are fishing
if you are bottom bouncing. There are simply more gravel bars where it is a
much more effective place to fish it that way. Best advice I can give you is
how I learned...drive up to Chilliwack/Hope area, and whenever you see a pile
of vehicles parked..you park too. No need to fish, just go watch what the guys
are doing..the ones catching fish anyways...there is a technique to be a good
flosser regardless of what many say on here. It should only take a few hours
to notice the similarities going on with those who are catching most of the
fish. Then simply copy to the best of your ability, what you have picked up
from watching others. But move to where flossing works best...higher up on the
river.

Hey guys I am bacicaly a fly fisherman, I like to take those 10 pound rainbows
on 4 pound test tippits,I find that very sporting, but there is nothing sporty
about this sockeye fishery, sure they are a lot of fun to catch, but everyone
is out there to get thier fish, so the faster you can get your fish in out of
everyones way the better, and at the same time have line heavy enough to handle
those big springs, I was quite happy the other day when I tied into a 22 1/2
pound spring, with my tuff line, and maxima leader, I had no trouble landing
it along with someone elles hook and 15 pound leader still in that fishes mouth.
and another 15 pounder yesterday. so far my two buddys and I have fished 10

Ho Hum, I thought the purpose of fishing was to catch fish. Not to see just
how small a line one can get away with. There is a LOT more too it than the
strength. 50lb tuffline has much less wind and water drag than 20lb mono because
it is thinner and you can put a lot more of it on your reel. It is just common
sense. I get much more feel directly to my tackle without the water and wind
and mono stretch getting in the way. I feel a hit much easier and when I yank
it will not stretch so better for setting the hook. It is superior line in many
ways. I use 20lb Maxum leader from the weight but replace it every 20 or 30
casts. If I lose that leader and hook big deal. I still do not lose my weight
and swivels which are the most expensive things and biggest pain to change.
If they can call gillnetting and purse seining fishing then you sure as heck
can call flossing fishing.

For you snaggers, liners, flosser or what every term you use, you have ruined
my and many others favorite bars, there is no excuse for snagging period!!!!!
Fish for fish that bite in a manner that gets them to bite... Chinook and bar
fish... Lining has crossed over to all other fisheries... DFO must make the
changes soon, our freshwater salmon fishery is becoming a JOKE.

had to work for it. Inevitably, people think my spot is special so wherever
I am it ends up being shoulder to shoulder because I am getting hits every two
or three casts. Guys, it is not the spot it is the technique. Anywhere on the
bar is as good as the next! No springs this weekend. It was too much of a zoo
for me to put in the time and that is what you usually have to do for springs.
Saw very few of those come in and the ones I did see were quite small for springs.
Watch out for thieves. Someone had their window broken at the south side of
scale bar roadside parking area first thing in the morning. I would LOVE to
catch the bastards and fillet them!

Fished scale today ,about the same as tuesday.sockeye limit no problem, springs
about 8 taken in the morning. i see a native buying station nr.camp hope,so
they are going to have a commercial opening .this is a good sign for sports
as dfo cant justify closing us if there is enough fish for commercial.also test
results are better each day.

this year as the main runs are later fish and might not hit the river untill
3rd wk aug.

Fished just below Grassy all afternoon. Looked pretty good from the start as
I had my first sockeye in the boat on the 2nd cast! Took the rest of the evening
to get two more between the two of us. No Springs on, nor did I see anyone else
with one.

Scale bar was not bad but it is a long walk back with 50 pounds of fish on your
back in 30 degrees and dodging trains every 15 minutes. Friday was ok. Sockeye
were no problem and managed a small spring as well. Saturday was slower. Never
got a spring but sockeye were no problem. Sunday seemed quite slow most of the
day. I only saw 2 springs come in all day. I got a beauty just before I was
getting ready to leave. It was jumping out of the water and giving everyone
quite a show.

If you go to scale dont leave anything in your car or you might find a broken
window. parking is worse this year more no parking signs.15-ft plus leaders
needed as water low and fast. fishing quite good.
