Report Number:10708
Name:Paul juoksu
Lake or River:Big Bar Lake
Date:03-Jan-2006
Comments:
December 28-30,2005. The ice is 7 to 10 inches thick on Big Bar. The lake was covered about 50% drifting snow less than 2 inches thick and the remainder was slick ice(good for skating). Temperature was about -4 with variable winds 5 to 10 km/per hr from the east end of the lake, wind chil about -9. Light snow fall on few of the evenings. The road was in great condition especially after the snow falls. We had some very nice sunny days at the end of the year. There was rain on Christmas day in the area. Most of the fishing appears to be on the east end of the lake. We had success fishing about 35 feet of water, 2 feet off the bottom. Rainbows in the 12 to 15 inch range were taking our dew worms. Lots of "soft" bites so you need to have a sensitive feel. We landed a 20 1/2 inch rainbow on a hand line. It was quite the battle keeping the line from catching on the sharp ice. The south side is private property except where the camp ground is. It is a long walk through the camp ground to get to the lake. The public access to the lake is on the north side about 100 yards past the cattle guard with Big Bar Ranch sign over it. We assumed this was the start of private property, but some helpfull folks advised us otherwise.

Brutus...nice try??? on what..the river being blown.Use some common sense we had weeks of cold weather and snow up on the hills, and in the last week the temp has risen BIG TIME, and the rain that has accumalated has put the river to higher and dirtier levels so some might look at it as blon out! why dont people just post the truth and if people dont believe the post then on to the next post or keep lack of common sense to yourself!

Lake or River:Vedder
Date:12-Dec-2005
Comments:
I managed to get away from the classroom long enough to wet a line on Sunday. A bit of walking and I found two wonderful stretches of water that I had all to myself. The first was below the crossing and the other was a ways above the On the Way store. I worked both stretches with small (#6) weighted polar shrimp and pink floozy patterns on a sink tip with an added lead core shooting head. While the river was in near-perfect condition and there were only a couple of old chum left to cast around, I was not able to locate any early steelhead (or late coho for that matter). I hope I can get out again before spring break.

Neil, any coho that is black and red does not have sea lice, they are river leeches that attach to boots after the sea lice have dropped off. River leeches are a sign from above that they are close to death! Grab any stick that has been in the river for some time and you will find these buggers.
