A good friend and i went sturgeon fishing this morning in the chilliwack area.We were fishing from shore using dew worms. As soon as the rods were in the water they both started to do the dance.I set the hook on mine and my friend did the same on his.My fish was landed after about 2 mins.Just a baby(2 footer)But my friends fish just sulked there,Then after about 5 mins it decided to jump,Well this fish was so big it couldnt get out of the water(at least 10 feet)After about an hour of some big long slow runs the hook just simply couldnt take it any more and POP,The dam hook straightened out.Only managed to catch a couple more little guys .There are some big hogs out there.

Hooked a steelie today but could not land it. River was in great condition. Clear with a touch of grey towards end of day, 3-4 ft visibility. Seen another one landed, and heard of one ealier. This is no sockeye season, and steelies are really not dense enough to floss them, not to say it is not ethical. Most likely a bogus report.

Lakes still frozen mostly.Nicola lake open mostly.Stump lake frozen up.Observed one diehard trying to get into south end to fish only ice free area. Not sure he made it, and was too cold just watching him try. Winter conditions brought back a nasty freeze. Be a while yet boys.

Flyrod; Wondering where you were fishing. I was there for a total of 4 hours in the A.M. and 4 hours in the afternoon. I live right on the river. there was nobody fishing all day except one man and his young son and some dog walkers. I work from home, so I've been fishing it almost every day and haven't seen a single steelhead hooked or caught there yet this year. I saw the snorkel counters there last Tuesday and they said they did not count one steelhead. I smell a little B.S. I was out again this A.M. and saw no action again except for one whitefish. Quite a few guys there this morning.

Went fishing right after work roday. Saw one taken around 5:00p.m. on a roe bag. Water is half a foot higher than last weekend's and it isn't as clear as last week's anymore so fish won't be as easily spooked as last week. There are a lot of fish in the system. There were about twelve to eighteen fish right under the log jam at Kieth Wilson bridge last Sunday. We know that for a fact cause there were about eight of us who had seen them from over the bridge. Most of the guys who saw them did not bother to go at it cause most of the guys had Spey rods and Fly rods..........me on the other hand, tried to go at it but went home a little frustrated....I kinda left about $20.00 worth of gear on the branches from the log jam and from something that looks like a shopping cart that some "punks" had disposed off over the bridge. I had to stop cause I was starting to feel that I was just contributing to the destruction of the river with all the gear I was loosing.

Your right center pin Jim. There have been quite a few steelhead entering the river over the last week or so. I got a hatchery buck on Friday, and saw a doe bonked just down river from me at Alco on the same morning. These fish are nice and fresh, no color on them. I went this morning and didn't get anything, but I did here of a couple caught near Egans.

Saw one fish(Steelie) being pulled from above the Train bridge around 1:00p.m. today. I heard some stories of "fish being pulled out" from mid-river mostly "wilds" and upper river from The Ranger run up to below Slesse--produced both "wilds and hatches". The water condition is still the same as last week but has a slight tinge of color in it..... and by the way, I saw a Spring porpoised at Peach road around 4:00p.m.. Overall, it was a great day releasing a few Whitefish.

Fished the Stave in the morning then went over to the Alouette. Fished the dam, and then down the other side towards the trailer park at the Stave. Didn't catch anything or see anything caught there. Tried around Alco afterwards on the Alouette and didn't get anything there. Dropped down to 227th and landed a nice wild doe around 8lbs or so. Got her on chum roe. Talked to a couple of guys on the Alouette who said there has been a few fish getting caught over the last few days. Good to see some fish showing on this river. Good luck to all.

Report Number:9724
Name:Fishnut
Lake or River:Bottom Bouncing
Date:03-Mar-2005
Comments:
The current water condition is perfect time for bottom bouncing. The sun and the clear water mean steelies will stay deep or at the head of a pool where there is rifle water but with fast top current. Float drifting will be too fast and cannot reach down. Bottom bouncing in this condition will out fish float fishing anytime in this condition. Try a small peach corky or spin-n-glow with 2-3 ft leader.

Me and my buddy went out the weekend. We were fishing the lower river together. I did my usual short floating, but i guess he didnt want to give you his bottom bouncing yet even after the Fraser Fall salmon runs. I tryed to convince him that short floating was the best way to fish, but he ignored me and fished his own way. What do you know the bugger lands a 10 pound hatch, First day on the vedder this year! Couldnt believe it, I decided to watch how he fished and then borrowed some of his bottom bouncing gear. Although I thought it wasn't the best way to fish, he proved me wrong. So id just like to let you know if you find the right water try a little bottom bouncing, just stay away from drifters!

Lake or River:Vedder
Date:02-Mar-2005
Comments:
Big Shrimper was out on the weekend, the water was low and clear. Light leaders and small shrimp helped put a hatchery job on the bank, about 8 lbs. He was lower in system, near Peach Road. Whoah ! Lots of dudes down there. Next time, BigShimer will wear shoulder pad with spikes, for the combat fishing, actually Big Shrimper will not back, but hike the backside. Also, another man's hammer is his own business. Over and out
