Fished Tunkwa and Leighton this weekend. Didn't catch any at Leighton but caught 8 fish at Tunkwa. Biggest was 18 inches. 3 of the fish were a bit dark. Didn't see many other fish caught. All fish caught on a #8 Olive Woolly Bugger. There were lots of Mayflies hatching except the fish weren't keying in on them. Not many chironomids hatching.

Just curious if anyone is gonna hit the Chehalis when it opens this tuesday and for those of you who fish it this time of year, what fish will typically be in the river at this time? Any info is appreciated, as I am planning on going this tuesday (JUNE 1st). Thanks, Scott.

fished 25,26 27 May for smallmouth.fishing good(20-30 fish a day),not exceptional.i've never fished this early in the season before.the reeds(and many other weeds) that line the shore have just started to grow which means i had to change my tactics somewhat.fish seemed very spooky with little weed cover.all the usual baits in all the usual places worked, perhaps not quite as effectively as in high summer.do you think 20-30 fish a day is a lot?if you do then you don't know one of the most prolific smallmouth lakes in the country.like any other fishery St.Mary must be learned,it's a good-sized lake.also saw a local guy who specializes in trolling for trout catch a 5lb rainbow,so silver it looked like a coho.actually i think it was a coho, they were introduced in the lake in years past and stayed there as a landlocked race.if you'd like more specific details e-mail me.NOTE-Catch&Release only until JUNE15!(also picked up one small cutty)

We fished St. Mary's last year, there are lots of places along the road where you can fish from shore. Try purple rubber salamanders, they kick ass. Also smaller black Mepps spinners. They're lots of fun to catch.

BBear, its too early to fish that high up on the fraser. I think you're more likely to catch a spawned out thompson steelhead there then a Spring. Wait another two weeks and they'll be a plentiful.

Hi! I'm afraid I have some VERY bad news with regards to fishin for those "chrome beauties" on the Fraser and surrounding creeks (Emory to be precise!)...Me and a bud went out this past Sunday in hot pursuit of these prizes; I gotta tell ya, I tried every trick in the book, but it didn't matter...WE GOT SKUNKED!!!!!!!! This was after I bragged to my friend (who had never Fraser river bar-fished before) that we were almost guarenteed to catch at LEAST one lowsy fish between us... nothin! Not even a hint of it. I called Fraser's Tackle the day before we went out and was told to use red and green wool and perhaps roe, too, if we wanted. Well I didn't feel like puttin out more scratch for roe when I already had lots of great lures and tons of different colors of wool, so we just tried the recommended red/green and when that didn't work, we tried different colours. We tried for at least two hours-no luck! I then suggested to my friend let's check out Emory Creek(which, as most people probably know, empties into the Fraser just after Yale) which also was suggested by a fellow at Fraser's Tackle on Saturday; we tried everything in the book there also (except for roe, of course) for at least another two hours...NOTHING THERE EITHER!!!!!!!!!! Now don't get me wrong. I'm not sorry I went. The weather was awesome and we had a great time-it just would have been nice if we could have caught at least one fish between us, especially after I said it was practically a SURE THING! It sure was different from when I went there for the first time at the end of last August when the sockeyes were running.(It was hard NOT to catch anything that day!) I guess I should have suspected something was amiss when I saw me and my bud were only one group of the whole handful of groups I saw at this popular bar. I was really surprised to see so few people there this past Sunday and on a holiday weekend at that.

Went the QA on Sunday. Caugt two undersized springs within 10 min at around 7am. Then the bite was off. Caught nothing for the rest of the day. Seem like fishing was really good until the sun came out on the weekend.

Just got back from a weekend fishing/camping in Kamloops. Hosli was dead slow on Saturday, heard it was good both on Thursday before and Sunday/Monday. The noisiest camp spot ever! One bad group can spoil all the fun. We're talking chainsaws, dirt bikes for most of the day, loud music and last but not least, firecrackers and screechers. Needless to say we moved on. Scuitto had a HUGE chironomid hatch, fish were very finicky. Landed only two fish all weekend compared to about 20 the same time last year.

Just finished fishing at Mike L today. The fish are really active right now. I boated 5 in the 10 to 13 inch range and got many strikes. I was using my own variation of a mayfly nymph. Here is the recipe: tail...pheasant tail; body...golden olive brown yarn; rib...one strand of dark green floss; wingcase...pheasant tail (using the tips of the barbs so that the colour matches the tail); hook...12 TMC x2 heavy. No hackle. My new variant has definately found a permanent spot in my fly box. Good luck and tight lines!! Dallas

I fished Pass three times last week with excellent success. Almost all the fish were in the 20+" range with one at an honest 25". All were caught on chironomids or bright red blood worms fished deep. Scuitto was slow and nobody caught anything even though all sorts of different flies and techniques were tried. Also the forest service road up there is quite rough so I wouldn't recommend driving there in the family car! Talk to ya soon

I needed a workout so I made the hike up to Hoover Lake today to harrass some nice wild cutts. Weather was nicely cool and overcast, water temp. was around 49-50F and a lot of midges/chironomids were showing as the day warmed up. Got most of the fish on a brown/grizzly hackled size 16 chironomid emerger, ranging in size from 11 to 17 inches. Nice sport on a 4 wt rod! There was also evidence of some big caddis or possibly flying ants from the day before- lots of wings floating on the surface. Say, what's the story on the gate? Sign says it "can be locked at any time" but when I was coming out all tired and bedraggled with my tube on my back, a truck load of young people open the gate and drive up to the trailhead. Hmmm.

PG Boy the location is a small bridge just outside Bear Lake Heading North. Turn left on a dirt road about 200 yards past the main entrance in to the townsite and drive down until you hit a bridge.....that's it. ps. if you hit the davie lake rd you've gone far. If you have any questions just e-mail me I'll be glad to help. Oh, the place you've been fishing can be very, very productive if you use the right gear in the right places. e mail me if you've got any spots you've found yourself. Geoff@ckpg.net

Well it looks like it's finally here! Fishing today(may 11, 1999) on the Crooked River was pretty good. The water was literally black with pea mouth and the Dolly were chasing them all the way up. We Caught 4 today, all from 2 to 6.5lbs and there were more being pulled in throughout the day. There's more to be had on the river for sure, it's just a matter of finding that perfect combination. Red and white Daredevils and yellow and red King of Diamond's spoons were very productive today. So hope to see more coming up the river here in the next couple of days, I'll let you know. Tight Lines! Geoff

fished buntzen after school yesterday from 4 till 7, had some good hits on a black chronamid, after an hour or two switched to a bergundy beed headed leach and got into a fish immediatly[after about 15 minutes of trolling],it was a 16 inch rainbow, kept that for the barby.trolled for a bit longer but mosquito's turned into quite a problem. ian oh yeah i was fishing the drop off near the beach, and if you are a kayaker have a bit of respect and not to play behind a tuber when he is fishing.

Well the mouth of the Vedder sucks. To many people. No i dont think it is possible to catch anything from shore. Its to shallow, not to mention to many boats. I could be wrong though. Got sick of the people and went up stream to do some sturgeon fishing. Landed one 7ft, one 4ft and one very very small one. About 10inches long. Pretty cool looking little fish. All in all had not a bad day.

I went to the mouth of the Vedder on Sunday, hoping to hit into a spring. Quite a walk later and no fish to show for it. I saw about 10 boat fisherman and I was the only one on the shore. Is is possible to catch springs in that area from shore? Is anyone catching springs in the fraser? Lastly, Is anyone else sick of having to go to two different areas to see the new chats. I wish they would can one of the boards.

Hey Frustrated try Tabor I have had good success lately on black bead-head leech patterns and black chironimids. I found the leeches were producing good in the morning and the chironies later in the afternoon arround 2pm and later. The trout averaged a pound and a half and were good and spunky. I was fishing the Groveburn rd access at the inlet creek launch, the whole bay seemed to be holding trout. Good Luck and Tight Lines.

Weather was still not very nice(snow showers both days)but fishing was very good. Caught 20+ fish; 12"-21" on chironomids. Will try some other lakes this week.

Fishing in Lake Kookanusa can be excellent for kokanee I found that I could have quite easily put put my limit in the boat in fifteen to twenty minutes when the right gear was used and when I fished at dusk or dawn. The limit if you were woundering, for kokanee in Montana is twenty with a two day possesion limit. For kokanee the best producer was a Ford Fender gang troll weighted with a red two once moching weight with a 3-4 foot leader on the smallest light orange with dark orange scales spin'n'glo, tipped off with a couple of maggots. The kokanee are usually located about a hundred to two hundred feet from the steep grassy cliffs, but when they are migrating they can be found everywhere. If you are interested in large Rainbows (to 23 pounds) or Bull trout which do not exist in large numbers try a small apex hot shot in black and white around the schools of kookanee. Bull trout are catch and release only and are in serious trouble in most of Montana so be careful with them if you are lucky enough to catch one. If you are in the lower stertch be sure to try the Kootnay River below Libby Dam for some aggresive rainbows that will readily take the dry fly around dusk . Try using pale morning duns for the night rise or wooly buggers in the day, in one of the rivers large back eddies. The largest Rainbow I got from the kootnay was eleven pounds but I here they can reach eighteen. I hope this will help good luck.

Lake is fishing very well on Chironi's. Some of the best I've seen in years!. Fish bloodworm, black or green, size 12, but in 50 feet of water! It took us a while to figure out but that's where they were. Still pretty cool in the AM and late in the PM. Mayflies started coming off last weekend and I did see the odd damsel. Fishing should get even better once the weather warms up.

Just came back from the Capilano. River in excellent shape. Saw couple of steelhead kelts hooked on pink/white yarn and spinner. Don't believe all the reports you hear about lots of cohos showing. There may be a few around but certainly not the school of "thousands" that a guy was telling me in the parking lot tonight. Tight line and best fishes

Tried to go fishing to Weaver. Found snow. Couldn't reach the lake. Same for Salisbury. Gave up and went chasing Cutts in an Allouette trib. There are lots of salmon fry, and lots of nice cutts chasing the fry. Saw one jump clear out of the water that must have been well over 3 lbs. Threw every fly I had at these fish. Even some relaistic tubular fry imitations. Didn't even get one hits. What's the secret?? Are the fish just really fussy??

See the Kamloops area report as well. This is fine tuning. Courtenay Lk is producing well. The reports of +/- 30 fish per day are true. Range is 2-10 lbs. Stump is also doing well. Best are Cironomods, red and black and 52 buicks. Marquart has also opened up and Lunbom is legally open as of May 1. Winds are blowing and temperatures have dropped so be prepared for cold weather. Conditions have varied considerably depending upon wind (weather). But if you can put up with conditions, it is well worth the trouble. Note though we got snow at higher levels today. Cleared this afternoon goin' out tommorrow......maybe
