Fished the Lickman road area below the train bridge yesterday. Still lots of pinks in the river but they don't fight long and can be quickly released. There are some decent sized coho being caught and they are quite clean. Hooked into four springs up to 30 lbs. I took a day off work hoping that I wouldn't have to contend with the crowds but there were still at least 100 people on about 1/2 km section of the river that I fished. Rob

I went to the Chehalis today, looking for coho. MAN the water was low and clear. There were quite a few dogs and ALOT of pinks. I decided to go bushwacking a little and found a nice pool. First cast, I got a nice cutty. I let it go. After 3 more casts, BANG, I hooked into a nice 6 pound wild summer run steelhead...a buck...a very beautiful fish and a nice surprise. I couldn't find anymore though. Tight lines!

Fished the Vedder from Allison Pool to the Hatchery. Saw lots of pinks and little coho. No springs that I saw caught. I would estimate that 90-95% of the fish I saw caught where pinks that had to be released. Saw a couple nice coho. Hooked into a couple pinks and a small hatchery coho which I let go. Good luck to all.

I went to Vedder River yesterday and saw quite a few coho staying in the holding tank at the hatchery. Some are colored but most of them are very clean. After a visit to the hatchery, I fished in the area around Limit hole for about three hours and I had three fish on but one pink was landed and released. The river in general is clear with good flow of water so that fish can move through the whole river system especially coho and pink. To my surpise I did not spot any spring in the hatchery yet.

Its hard to know what to think of the reports sometimes. Report here on Tunkwa Lake several days ago reports fishing on and around 19 Sept. was slow. But, go to the Kamloops area report made by sporting goods store reports Rob, (probably of Tunkwa Lake resort) phoned and reported the best fishing of the year is happening and that was on the 25 sept. I guess if one is going there you just have to go for it and hope for the best.

Saw about 6 coho landed and many pinks rolling in the river and getting snagged and a couple springs jumping around. Saw big schools of coho swimming around but I guess they are easily spooked because I had to stop by the pub for dinner! They are out there! Good luck to all. Marco

Damn there are a lot of springs in the capilano. Everywhere I look there are springs. No sight of any cohos left off from the recent run. I'm guessing it's over, anyone else know anything about it? Well i'm fishing in my spot and my friend gets a big spring on which doesn't cooperate and just takes his leader and snaps it in two, then about 10 seconds l8ter i get one on and it starts taking me down the current and down the river, i had to chase it and got it into a pool, i was fighting it for like 5 mins and then it starts jumping a lot like 5 times and then i jumps once swings it's head and get loose. Man was i pissed off but had a lot of fun, that thing fought a lot never actually fought a spring before. Well it was good and had a lot of fun i'm going to head out there tonight also. Tight lines, Tim p.s. just for the record I wasn't trying to target springs (i had an 8lb leader) and targeting springs in the cap isn't open till october 15th.

WOW! What a day. I caught 28 'bows today and had about a dozen of 'the one that got away'. These are the days I live for. For the first hour I was getting a fish per cast. The fly that did the work was a sz10, medium gray, gold rib, Doc Spratley. I got to the lake at about 2:30 and fished until 5:30. At around 4:30 the trout started coming up to the surface for tiny black midge like bugs. There was so much shlooping going on that it made concentrating on your fly impossible. I think tomorrow will be just as good as today if not better. Good Luck and Tight Lines! Dallas

I thought it was about time I posted a fishing report. I went to the Harrison Wednesday and landed 1 8lb sockeye and lost 5 others. Morning was the best. The company was excelent this time. Lots of very friendly people out there. much better than the lower Vedder. Saw at least 9 other fish landed. Finished there at about 1:00pm and decided to go sturgeon fishing. went up river from the mouth of the Harrison, on the Fraser and caught a really fat 6ft'r. Evertime it got close to the boat, off it went again. Well going out next week, weather permitting, and am going to try the Vedder again. This time Im bringing my cell phone and a camera to take pictures of any @#$#@$#@ person killing wild Coho!. Tight lines and remember, READ THE REG'S BEFORE YOU GO OUT!!!

Stopped by Elk Lake on the way to Victoria Thursday nite (Sept.9) and it was amazing. Bite came on at 7pm and the water was alive. Surface feeding, jumps every 3-5 minutes. Red PowerBait grubs, spinning flies and dry flies on a bobber all worked. Rainbows in the 2-3lb. range (all released)were common. Try the rowing docks at the south end, near the highway on the east side, or go into the park and find a clearing on the north side. Park outside the gates if you'll be there after dusk. Great fun, great lake.

You can catch and keep either Pinks or Chum. Pinks are the most prevalent at this time. Chums show in good numbers in a month or so. For pinks any bright Pink lure or fly does the trick. Standard drift techniques with wool works as well. There are a few coho and Chinook - coho must be released. Chinook jacks under 50cm (20in) can be retained but fish that size are infrequent.

For those seeking information about the Skagit- check with your local flyshop and also check out some of the recent reports on www.flyshop.com on the Western Canada regional fishing reports, as well as some of the info on the Discussion Board on this site. Come equipped with lots of bug juice, hiking stamina (to get some separation between you and the rest of the crowd up there) and a fly box containing gold ribbed hares ears in sizes 12 to 16, some with beadheads, some without, some small (size 16) soft hackles, some size 14-18 cream and yellow dry flies, some various colours of caddis dries size 10 to 16. That should cover about 90% of anything that may be happening up there this time of year with the conditions being seen.

This past weekend was slow for chinook fishing in for the Canadian Princess Resort. However, we all enjoyed good company and moderate success. With the new barbless regulations, we lost at least 20 salmon, but managed to bring home 7 chinook for our group of 14 persons - the largest was 28 lbs. Bottom fishing was great with plenty of various colourful fish. The largest fish landed by the resort visitors during our stay was a 91 lb. halibut! For next year we will be fishing the July 1st long weekend during the peak season. Good people and fishing made for a very enjoyable holiday.

Yes, the white chinooks are a Harrison fish originally, however, I believe DFO planted a large stocking of fry in Indian Arm a few years ago to see if they'd "take" to the Indian River system. Usually the Harrison fish are headed straight up the Fraser, so if you got one off the Cap. it may be an Indian Arm returnee. Cheers.

We reported that we landed a spring at the mouth of the Cap. Should also point out that the spring was a "white chinook". I've never seen one before and I understand they are sort of rare. I think these are headed to the Harrison. Anybody know anything about these "white chinooks"?

This Seymour river is a very interesting river. I jumped in the river with my wetsuit at twin bridges yesterday and saw literally hundreds of pinks spawning and moving in the deep currents of the river. also lots of hatchery rainbow/steelheads that could be making there way to sea, I don't know. so anyways , my mask broke so I didn't do the whole drift. I had to back track uup the river to my bike. It was cool.

I managed to get an hour and a half in on the Coldwater River yesterday coming back from a meeting in Kelowna. I don't know how many times I've driven by this piece of water and thought to myself that there are some fishy looking places in there....Yep, there certainly are. I stopped just a couple of km south of the Coldwater exit on the old Coldwater Road towards Brookmere and just pulled into a small side trail that led to a nice camping spot along the river. I wasn't expecting much, being so close to the road, and right next to what looked like a popular bush party site, but what the heck? In the first few runs I managed to raise a couple of six inchers to the dry fly and then noticed some rises along the face of a big old cottonwood at the front of a logjam with a deep pool under it. By casting the fly within a few inches of the face of the log and getting a good couple feet of drift I was rewarded with a splashy take and my rod bent to one of the fattest 11 inch river rainbows I've seen in a long time. These buggers were football shaped with beautiful markings and aerobatic to boot. In the space of an hour at the one run along the logjam pool I managed to get 8 fish to hand, half were small ones but four of them were 10-11 inchers which made my day. Size 16 Adams does it again. I'm sure if one explored along the less accessible stretches of this stream, there would be some great fishing and possibly larger trout hiding in the deeper pools. I'm going to have to go back and check this out. Water temperature was approx. 53-54F and a few pale mayflies were seen coming off around 6PM, and the shore lines were crawling with small black catterpillarlike things about an inch long. I couldn't see any in the water but they were on rocks right down to the water's edge.
